Sat, May 18, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Women's Track Wins Blugold Open In Season Debut Posted: Friday, January 20, 2006 EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire women's track team had no trouble winning its season opener, scoring 205.5 points to easily outdistance four other teams in the Blugold Open here Friday night. Winona State scored 129 for second while the University of St. Thomas was third at 115.5 followed by Winona St. Mary's at 54 and Bethel University at 45. Eau Claire, Winona and St. Thomas each won five events while former Blugold standout Melissa Wright won the mile run as an unattached runner. The Blugolds used some carryover from their NCAA qualifying cross country team to win the two distance events. Christina Locke (Jr.-Racine/Horlick) won the 3,000-meter race while Molly Warner (So.-Mosinee) captured the 5,000-meter race. In the 3K, Kasey Stanek (Sr.-La Crosse/Central) added runner-up points for the Blugolds and in the 5K, Bridget Bocher (Jr.-Watertown) and Amber Hertz (So.-Baraboo) were second and third for the Blugolds.
Liz Faller (Jr.-Marinette) was the only other individual Blugold winner, taking the 55-meter hurdles. She also placed third in the 200-meter dash. The Blugolds also won the 4x400-meter relay. In her debut as a Blugold track athlete, All-Conference soccer player Liz Kooistra (Lakeville, MN) placed second in the 200 dash and fifth in the 55 dash. She also ran the leadoff leg on the winning relay team. Senior Erin Kokta (Brookfield/East) was a third-place finisher in both the long jump and the triple jump. Junior Chelsea Becker (Rice Lake) competed in five events, scoring in the pole vault (3rd), 55 hurdles (5th) and high jump (5th). Defending national pole vault champion Steph Barnes (Jr.-Sauk City/Sauk Prairie) easily won the pole vault with a school-record jump of 12-2, breaking the mark of 12-0 she set last year. She was 14 inches better than her nearest competitor.
