Mon, May 20, 2013 No Event(s) Scheduled For Selected Date Men's Track Wins 14 Of 16 Events In Blugold Open Posted: Friday, January 20, 2006 EAU CLAIRE - UW-Eau Claire men's track coach Chip Schneider split his squad into two teams and still managed to take first and second in the five-team Blugold Open Friday night. Blugold athletes captured 14 of the 16 events with junior Nick Aliota (Brookfield/Central) becoming the only double winner, capturing the 55-meter hurdles and the 200-meter dash. The EC Blue team scored 186 points to top the EC Gold team which had 160. Bethel University was third at 105 followed by Winona St. Mary's at 33 and the Prime Time Track Club at 18. Four freshmen were individual winners for the Blugolds, the most noteworthy being Chris Kupfer (Germantown) who won the 55-meter dash and finished second to Aliota in the 200. Weston Fischer (Rosemount, MN) won the 400-meter dash, beating teammate B.J. Brossard (Green Bay/Southwest) by nearly a full second. Mark Sanders (Hammond/St. Croix Central) won the 5,000-meter race while Grant Haugan (Green Bay/Ashwaubenon) was the winner in the triple jump, going almost two feet beyond his nearest competitor.
The only events the Blugolds did not win were the pole vault where Bethel went one-two-three and the mile which was won by former Blugold standout Rich Maleniak. Blugold athletes took the top three spots in the 200 dash, 3000 run and the weight throw and went one-two in the 55 dash, the 400 dash, the 5K run and the long jump. The Blugolds also won both relay events. The Blugolds return to competition next Saturday in the Whitewater Invite. - TP - |

Other Blugold winners included Joey Veriga (Jr.-Cudahy) in the 800-meter dash, Ted Lillie (So.-North St. Paul, MN), Andrew Kling (So.-Marshfield) in the high jump, Dan Roemhild (So.-Fall Creek) in the long jump, Al Oleson (Jr.-Wausau/West) in the shot put and Ryan Brohmer (Jr.-La Crosse/Logan) in the weight throw.
