Swimming & Diving Sweeps Macalester

MACALESTER, MN - The UW-Eau Claire men's and women's swimming and diving teams swept Macalester College tonight with the men winning 189-35 and the women winning 136-106.
The Blugold men picked up of their first dual meet victory of the season and are now 1-3 overall in dual meets. The Blugold women picked up their second win of the season and are now 2-2 overall in dual meets.
The Blugold men won 12 of the 13 events. Donnie Vollmer (Fr.-Superior) won the one-meter dive with a score of 249.90. Scott Heatwole (Sr.-Port Washington) won the 3-meter dive with a score of 252.90. Clark Draxler (Fr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) won the 800-meter freestyle with a time of 9:53.41. Patrick Finley (Fr.-Waunakee) won the 200-meter freestyle with a time of 2:07.13 and the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:31.96.
Cale Schmidt-Jackson (Jr.-Duluth, MN/East) won the 200-meter individual medley with a time of 2:22.58 and the 100-meter breaststroke with a time of 1:13.95. Both of the men's relay teams were also victorious. The 200-meter medley relay team of Brian Schwartz (Jr.-Bemidji, MN), Chris Petersen (Fr.-Green Bay/Ashwaubenon), Brian Hauerwas (So.-Racine/CASE), and Cale Schmidt-Jackson won with a time of 2:09.69. The 200-meter freestyle relay team of Peter Shafe (Jr.-Burlington), Nick Peterson (Jr.-Lake Elmo, MN/North St. Paul), Patrick Finley, and Brain Schwartz won with a time of 1:43.36.
Brain Hauerwas won the 100-meter butterfly, Peter Schultz (Fr.-Oakdale, MN/North) won the 100-meter freestyle, and Nick Peterson won the 100-meter backstroke.
Two pool records fell on the women's side. The Blugolds' Cori Severson (Sr.-Brainerd, MN) set a pool record in the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:01.67. Severson was also victorious in the 50-meter freestyle with a time of 28.04. Also, the 200-meter freestyle relay team consisting of Emily Diehl (So.-Prarie du Sac/Sauk Prarie), Annie Gorman (Sr.-Menomonie), Kyle Welke (So.-Eau Claire/North), and Cori Severson set a pool record with a time of 1:54.85.
The Blugolds' 200-meter medley relay team of Emmie Lee (So.-Zimmerman, MN/Elk River), Emily Diehl, Alissa Condra (Jr.-Rhinelander), and Annie Gorman won with a time of 2:12.49. Annie Gorman also won the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 1:11.74. Emily Viau (Jr.-Apple Valley, MN/Eastview) won the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:53.99.
The Blugolds next meet will be at home against conference opponents UW-Whitewater and UW-River Falls next Friday night with action beginning at 5 p.m. in McPhee Physical Education Center.
