Men's Track To Host 2006 Blugold Open

EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire men's track team will compete in its second indoor meet of the season as it will host the 2006 Blugold Open to be held Friday night at the Ade Olson Addition of the McPhee Physical Education Center.
Other teams competing in the meet are: PrimeTime Track Club, St. Mary's University, and Bethel College.
The Blugolds began their season last week at the Badger Classic held in Madison. The Blugolds' Al Oleson (Jr.-Wausau, WI/West) was the only member of the Blugolds to win his event, as he took first in the shot put throwing 49?-1.5" (14.97 meters).
In the 200-meter dash, Nick Aliota (Jr.-Brookfield, WI/Central) and freshman Chris Kupfer (Fr.-Germantown, WI) finished second and third respectively for the Blugolds. Aliota also finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles. Another Blugold freshman Kevin Hall (Fr.-Green Bay, WI/Preble) finished second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:17.53.
In the long jump, Dan Roemhild (So.-Fall Creek, WI) placed third with a jump of 21?-2" (6.45 meters). Joseph Veriga (Jr.-Cudahy, WI) finished fourth for the Blugolds in the 600-meter run and freshman Weston Fischer (Fr.-Rosemount, MN) also finished fourth in the 800-meter run.
The Blugolds were very successful in last year's Blugold Open, winning the event with 155 points. The Blugolds finished the event with nine first place finishes. Bethel College finished second in the meet last year.
Field events will begin at 3:30 p.m., while the running will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday.
