Women's Basketball Makes It Three Straight Wins

SUPERIOR - The UW-Eau Claire women's basketball team made it a clean sweep of UW-Superior tonight as the Blugolds won their third straight with a 77-54 victory over the Yellowjackets.
The victory gives the Blugolds an overall record of 8-9 and a conference record of 3-5. The loss drops the Yellowjackets to 3-12 overall and 0-8 in the conference.
The Blugolds jumped out early outscoring the Yellowjackets 12-4 the first four minutes of the game. The game would then go back-and-forth for the majority of the first half and the Blugolds were up 27-18 with 3:15 remaining in the first half. The Blugolds would then outscore the Yellowjackets 9-3 the rest of the half and the Blugolds would go into halftime with a 36-21 lead.
The Blugolds shot very well in the first half, shooting 57% from the field, while the Yellowjackets shot just 36%.
The Blugolds would continue to add-on to the lead in the second half with the margin being in the 20's for most of the half. The Blugolds would have their biggest lead of the game of 30 with 6:08 remaining following a Brooke Hakanson (Fr.-Wheeler, WI/Boyceville)} three-pointer. The Blugolds would cruise to victory 77-54.
The Blugolds shot just as well in the second half as they finished 56% from the field. The Blugolds out-rebounded the Yellowjackets 32-25 in the game.
Heidi Arciszewski (Fr.-Thorp, WI) led all scorers with 16 points on the night for the Blugolds. Brittanni Hakanson (Fr.-Wheeler, WI/Boyceville) added 11 points. Rachel Becker (Sr.-Gilmanton, WI) had a great all-around night for the Blugolds as she had eight points with eight assists and led in the team in rebounds with seven.
The Blugold women will also begin the second half of their conference schedule as they too will travel to UW-La Crosse to face the Eagles on Saturday. The Eagles defeated the Blugolds 72-63 in the first meeting. The tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
