Posted: Friday, January 13, 2006
EAU CLAIRE - The UW-Eau Claire men's hockey team was shut out tonight by St. Olaf College 3-0 at the Hobbs Ice Center.
With the loss the Blugolds drop to 1-12-3 overall and with the win the Oles improve to 4-5-4 overall. This was only the second loss by the Blugolds to St. Olaf in the last 11 meetings between the two schools.
The Oles got on the board early on a power-play goal by team point-leader Kyle Hilmershausen just five minutes into the contest. Nick Stalock was credited with the assist. The Blugolds out-shot the Oles in the first period 11-7, but were unable to get one past the goaltender.
Neither team scored in the second period as the Oles out-shot the Blugolds 13-8 in the period. Halfway through the third period, St. Olaf put some distance between themselves and the Blugolds as Mitch Mudra scored to put the Oles up 2-0. Brett Kistner and Joel Ihrie assisted on the goal.
St. Olaf would then put the game away on a Dylan Mueller goal with 3:20 remaining. Nick Stalock had his second assist of the game.
Blugold goalie Steffan Braunlich (Sr.-Los Angeles, CA/Loyola) had 27 saves on the night.
The Blugolds will host Gustavus Adolphus tomorrow night in the Hobbs Ice Center. The action begins at 7 p.m.
