- 2010 NCAA Division III SkyCaddie NGCA Regional Coach of the Year (central region)
- Led the Blugolds to five NCAA Championships
- In 2010 the Blugolds finished third place in the nation
- In 2009, Blugolds finished sixth, their best finish since 2006 (fifth place)
- 2009 appearance was team's 10th in a row, the second most appearances by an NCAA Division III institution in history
- At WIAC Championship, has finishes of first (2006-07, 2010), second (2008-09) and fourth (2007-08)

- Has coached eight All-Americans (four first team, two second team, two HM), 12 first team All-WIAC members, five individual WIAC Champions

- National Golf Foundation's Distinguished Teacher Award

- Coached nine All-Americans, four Academic All-Americans, 14 All-Conference players and 27 Academic All-Conference selections
- Coached two-time All-American James McLean who was the 1998 NCAA medalist and who currently plays on the pro tour
- Helped Minnesota host the 2000 NCAA Golf Championship at the Hazeltine National Golf Club

- After leaving coaching in 2002, was Assistant Athletic Director for fundraising and scheduling (involved in raising over three million dollars for endowment of the golf program)

- Coached team for 11 years

- Led the Cadets to eight straight appearances in the NCAA championships
- Produced three All-Americans, 27 All-Conference players and four Academic All-Americans
- After 25 years of coaching collegiate golf, he exited the profession in 2002 to pursue a dream of building a world class golf learning center
- Was the Director of Golf and Consultant for the Mulligan Masters Golf Learning Center in Lake Elmo, Minnesota for the past four years
- Eearned his bachelor's degree from the University of Oklahoma and his master's degree from Colorado State University
- While doing his master's work at CSU, Means led the Rams to the highest conference finish in the university's history
- Married to Mindy. Has one daughter, Deb (won the Minnesota State High School championship, then went to Wake Forest on a scholarship and was the Demon Deacons' captain as a senior) and one son, John (baseball player at University of St. Thomas, firstbaseman who helped the Tommies win the NCAA Division III Championship in Spring 2009
