2004 Volleyball Athletes of the Week

October 25, 2004-October 31, 2004

Becca Carstensen, MH, Sr., Eau Claire (Memorial)
Carstensen totaled 62 kills in 20 games last week as the Blugolds finished the week 3-2. She had a kill percentage of .323 for the week while also totaling 25 blocks. She was named to the UW-River Falls All-Tournament Team and also recorded her 1,000th career kill. Carstensen added nine service aces, nine digs and four assists on the week.

October 18, 2004-October 24, 2004

Jenny Wolter, RS, Jr., Osceola
Wolter tallied eight kills and six total blocks in just four games this week despite a 3-1 loss to No. 15 River Falls. The junior Blugold had a kill percentage of .300 while also recording a set assist and a dig.

October 4, 2004-October 10, 2004

Becca Carstensen, MH, Sr., Eau Claire (Memorial)
Carstensen was named to the All-Tournament team at the NYU Invitational, hosted by No. 1 ranked New York University. The senior middle hitter led the Blugolds to a 2-2 record at the tournament. For the week, Carstensen finished 38 kills in 14 games, 22 total blocks, 10 digs, five service aces, one assists, and a kill percentage of .279.

September 27, 2004-October 3, 2004

Jenny Wolter, RS, Jr., Osceola
Wolter led the Blugolds to a 3-2 victory over 8th-ranked UW-Platteville as she tallied 10 kills while making just two errors for a .364 kill percentage. Wolter also recorded six block assists as Eau Claire knocked off the No. 8 team in the country. On the week, Wolter totaled 26 kills, a .351 kill percentage, 10 block assists, and seven digs.

September 20, 2004-September 26, 2004

Carstensen led the Blugolds to a 5-0 week and a championship at the 2004 Lisa Siegenthaler Memorial Tournament, in which Eau Claire topped 14th-ranked River Falls in the championship match. The senior middle hitter pounded out 71 kills in 18 games, an average of nearly four kills per game. She had an incredible kill percentage of .444 for the week while also tallying 16 service aces. She proved to be a threat for opposing attackers at the net as she recorded 37 total blocks and 30 block assists. She broke the Eau Claire school records in both categories during the first day of the tournament, passing Brooke Wozniak-Schmidt in both block assists and total blocks. Carstensen also recorded 18 digs on the week and was named to the 10-player All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the Lisa Siegenthaler Memorial Tournament.

September 13, 2004-September 19, 2004

Molly Menard, Outside Hitter, Jr., Eau Claire (Memorial)
Menard led the Blugolds to a 2-1 record last week, including a 3-2 win over eighth-ranked UW-Whitewater. The outside hitter tallied 54 kills in 13 games, an average of more than four kills per game. She also recorded 25 digs and seven blocks on the week as Eau Claire improved to 9-3 on the season.

September 6, 2004-September 12, 2004

Jenny Wolter, Right side, Jr., Osceola
Wolter led the Blugolds to a 3-1 record at the Augsburg Invitational this weekend and was named to the All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the event. She had the match of her life in a 3-2 victory over St. Olaf, recording 17 kills and 11 block assists while recording a kill percentage of .424. For the week, Wolter recorded 50 kills in 18 games with a percentage of .340. She also tallied 19 block assists, seven set assists and five digs.

August 30, 2004-September 5, 2004

Becca Carstensen, Middle hitter, Sr., Eau Claire (Memorial)
Carstensen led the way to a 4-0 record at the UWEC Labor Day Tournament as the Blugolds dropped just one game in four matches. In five total matches last week, the senior Blugold totaled 60 kills and 35 blocks while also pounding out 15 service aces. In a 3-1 win over Augsburg at the Labor Day Tournament, Carstensen set an Eau Claire school record with 14 blocking assists. The 14 blocks also tied the school record for total blocks in a match. Her efforts earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team.
