2002 Volleyball Athletes of the Week

Brooke Wozniak, MH, Jr., Stanley (Stanley-Boyd)
Totaled 38 kills in WIAC postseason play including a 17 kill performance with only two errors, giving her a hit percentage of .375, against UW-Oshkosh. She also had a 12 kill, 2 error performance against UW-Stout in the third place match in River Falls.

Becca Carstensen, MH, So., Eau Claire (Memorial)
Racked up 36 kills in 13 games at the Trick or Treat Tourney in River Falls and featured a hit percentage of .406. She also totaled 13 service aces in the four matches and led the Blugolds to a 4-0 record in River Falls. She also averaged nearly a block and a half per game as she had 18 blocks in the 13 games.

Julie Bobbe, LSH, Jr., Minocqua/Lakeland
Piled up 27 kills in three matches this week helping Eau Claire defeat Superior to claim a home match in the first round of postseason play. She also totaled 45 digs in the three matches.

Piled up 30 kills in three matches against conference opponents Stout, Whitewater, and Stevens Point. She featured a hit percentage of .433 in three games against Stevens Point. She also totaled 36 digs in the three matches.

Racked up 27 digs in two matches and helped the Blugolds defeat St. Scholastica.
September 30, 2002-October 6, 2002
Molly Menard, Fr., Eau Claire/Memorial
Had 15 kills and only one error in the Blugolds lone match against Oshkosh this week. Her incredible hitting percentage of .560 for the match helped the Blugolds top their conference opponent.
September 23, 2002-September 29, 2002
Brooke Wozniak, Jr, Stanley/Stanley-Boyd
Piled up 73 kills in five matches this week, including a 20 kill, 0 error performance against St. Scholastica where she had a hitting percentage of .625. Her hitting percentage for the week was an astounding .401.
September 16, 2002-September 22, 2002
Shanna Berger, Fr., Baldwin/Woodville
Had 17 defensive digs against UW-La Crosse despite the Blugold loss. Also had 18 defensive digs against UW-Platteville and helped the Blugolds win their conference opener.
Jenny Wolter, Fr., Osceola
Had six kills with only two errors against UW-La Crosse. Was involved in 19 total attacks and also had four assists against La Crosse.

Brooke Wozniak, 6-0, Middle Hitter, Jr., Stanley/Stanley-Boyd
Named to the six-player All-Tournament team in the eight-team Elmhurst Invitational that included the top two ranked teams in the country in the University of La Verne (CA) and UW-Whitewater. The Blugolds lost to the two powerhouses but came back for wins over North Central College (IL) and Simpson College (IA) to place fifth. Wozniak averaged 3.29 kills per game and hit .379 for the tournament. She also was involved in 14 blocks as she earned All-Tournament honors for the third time this season.

Brooke Wozniak, 6-0, Middle Hitter, Jr., Stanley/Stanley-Boyd
Named to the 12-player All-Tournament team in the Augsburg Invitational as the Blugolds won their pool but lost to UW-Stout, 3-1, in the championship match. In the championship match, she hit .342 with 16 kills. In a 3-0 win over Augsburg, she had 20 kills with no errors and hit .769. In a 3-0 win over St. Scholastica, she hit .478 with 13 kills. She had 10 kills in a 3-1 decision over St. Olaf.
April 30, 2002-September 2, 2002
Julie Bobbe, Junior, 5-5, Leftside hitter, Minocqua/Lakeland HS
Named to the eight-player All-Tournament team in leading the Blugolds to first place in their own six-team tournament. The Blugolds lost just one game in their four matches. Bobbe made 35 kills and hit .267 for the tournament. She also was credited with 42 digs, four assists, one service ace and two blocking assists. Despite her height, Bobbe plays an outside hitter for veteran coach Lisa Herb who won her 500th match at Eau Claire with her first victory of the season.
