2008-09 Tennis Athletes of the Week

March 30, 2009-April 5, 2009

Singles: Megan Born, Freshman, Antigo, Wis.
Born picked up two wins while only giving up three points this weekend in the No. 2 spot as the Blugolds defeated St. Catherine (Minn.) 8-1 and UW-Stout 9-0. Against St. Catherine, Born won 6-1, 6-1 while she won 6-1, 6-1 against Stout.

Doubles: Gina Dahl, Junior, Fort Atkinson, Wis. & Courtney Lynne, Junior, Rochester, Minn./Mayo
Dahl and Lynne went 2-0 this weekend playing in the No. 1 doubles spot. Against St. Catherine, the duo won 8-4 while they did not allow a point in an 8-0 victory over UW-Stout.

March 9, 2009-March 22, 2009

Singles: Brenna McCormick, Junior, Greendale, Wis.
On this week's spring break trip, the Blugolds went 4-1, dropping their first match but winning the remainder of them. McCormick did not drop a single match and finished the week 5-0 at No. 3 singles. She allowed only three points in three of her match that she won in straight sets.

Doubles: Gina Dahl, Fort Atkinson, Wis. & Courtney Lynne, Junior, Rochester, Minn./Mayo
With the Blugolds going 4-1 on their spring break trip in Orlando, Florida, Dahl and Lynne also finished the week with a 4-1 record. After dropping their first match No. 1 doubles, they bounced back and won the next four, including an 8-0 win right after their loss.

March 2, 2009-March 8, 2009

Singles: Erin Welch, Junior, Tomah, Wis.
While the Blugolds split this weekend with a 5-4 loss to St. Olaf on Friday and a 7-2 victory over Cornell College on Saturday, Welch did not drop either of her matches at No. 4 singles. Friday she played in a tough match but eventually came out on top 6-7 (4-7), 6-3, 10-3 while she won by default on Saturday.

Doubles: Erin Welch, Junior, Tomah, Wis. & Brenna McCormick, Junior, Greendale, Wis.
The duo of Welch and McCormick picked up two wins at No. 2 doubles this weekend as the Blugolds lost 5-4 to St. Olaf on Friday and defeated Cornell College 7-2 on Saturday. The two only allowed four points in both matches, winning 8-3 on Friday and 8-1 on Saturday.

October 13, 2008-October 19, 2008

Singles: Erin Welch, Junior, Tomah, Wis.
In one match this week at UW-La Crosse, Welch defeated Jenny Maruyama at No. 4 singles with scores of 6-4, 7-5. Welch is now 9-2 at No. 4 singles this season.

Doubles: Brenna McCormick, Junior, Greendale, Wis. & Erin Welch, Junior, Tomah, Wis.
The duo of McCormick and Welch improved to 9-2 on the season at No. 2 doubles with an 8-6 victory over La Crosse's Jenny Maruyama and Debbie Braun.

September 29, 2008-October 5, 2008

Singles: Brenna McCormick, Junior, Greendale, Wis.
In one No. 3 singles match this week against River Falls' Katie Lynn Anderson, McCormick allowed only one point as she took the match 6-1, 6-0, and the Blugolds won 7-2.

Doubles: Brenna McCormick, Junior, Greendale, Wis. & Erin Welch, Junior, Tomah, Wis.
At No. 2 doubles against UW-River Falls on Wednesday, McCormick and Welch picked up an 8-1 victory as the Blugolds won the conference meet 7-2.

September 22, 2008-September 28, 2008

Singles: Erin Welch, Junior, Tomah, Wis.
Welch went 3-0 this weekend at No. 4 singles, which helped the Blugolds go 3-0 as well. On Saturday against St. Scholastica, Welch notched a three-set victory, which gave the Blugolds a 5-4 win. Later in the day against Bethel, she defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-4. On Friday she needed three sets to defeat Stevens Point's Kaylei Sorensen.

Doubles: Jackie Gillespie, Freshman, De Pere, Wis. & Emily Hiebl, Freshman, Wausau, Wis./East
In three matches this weekend at No. 3 doubles, Gillespie and Hiebl were undefeated. On Friday against WIAC opponent Stevens Point, the duo won 8-6. On Saturday they allowed only four points in two matches with an 8-1 win over Bethel University and an 8-3 victory over St. Scholastica.

September 15, 2008-September 21, 2008

Singles: Brenna McCormick, Junior, Greendale, Wis.
In three matches this weekend, McCormick went undefeated at No. 3 singles. Against NCAA Division I opponent UW-Green Bay, McCormick picked up a win in straight sets with scores of 6-2, 6-4. On Saturday at St. Norbert, McCormick did not allow a point, winning 6-0, 6-0, while she won 6-1, 6-1 at Lawrence University later in the day.

Doubles: Jackie Gillespie, Freshman, De Pere, Wis. & Emily Hiebl, Freshman, Wausau, Wis./East
This Saturday the duo of Gillespie and Hiebl won two matches at No. 3 doubles. They defeated St. Norbert's Stephanie Marek and Kaleigh Wenberg 8-0 early on Saturday and followed that with an 8-2 win over Lawrence University's Emily Dalton and Emma Kent later in the day.

September 8, 2008-September 14, 2008

Singles: Gina Dahl, Junior, Fort Atkinson, Wis.
In this Saturday's 6-3 victory over conference opponent UW-Oshkosh, Dahl won 6-2, 6-1. She defeated Kristina Naidicz at No. 1 singles, a week after falling to Naidicz at the Warhawk Invitational.

Doubles: Brenna McCormick, Junior, Greendale, Wis. & Erin Welch, Junior, Tomah, Wis.
This Saturday McCormick and Welch picked up a win at No. 2 doubles as the Blugolds defeated UW-Oshkosh 6-3. The duo won 8-6 over Brittany Braasch and Allison Broerman.

September 1, 2008-September 7, 2008

Singles: Michelle Reinders, Sophomore, Hartland, Wis./Arrowhead
Reinders helped lead the Blugolds to their third place finish at this weekend's Warhawk Invite. At No. 3 singles, she took third place, defeating Beloit College's Briana Birkowitz 6-0, 6-0.

Doubles: Emily Heibl, Freshman, Wausau, Wis./East & Megan Born, Freshman, Antigo, Wis.
Heibl and Born picked up the Blugolds lone point in the Blugolds' season opening dual meet against Whitewater. Playing at No. 3 doubles, Born and Heibl defeated Brittany Gering and Kara Amundson 8-5.
