2005 Soccer Athletes of the Week

October 24, 2005-October 30, 2005

Offense: "Maria Iaizzo, F, Jr. White Bear Lake, MN"
In the Blugolds final regular season game, Iaizzo assisted on the game winning goal and scored her 5th goal of the season, helping the Blugolds beat Hamline University 3-0. The win gave the Blugolds a conference leading 13th victory.

Defense: "Anna Talbot, D, So., Apple Valley, MN/Eastview"
Talbot helped the Blugolds earn its 12th shut out of the season, tying a school record for shutouts in a season. Talbot won every 50/50 ball that came into her area of the field, and played a big defense role by helping the Blugolds hold Hamline to just six shots in the game.

October 17, 2005-October 23, 2005

Offense: "Jana Huebner, F, So. Mendota Heights, MN/St. Croix Lutheran"
Jana helped score the winning goal late in the 1st half vs. UW-Superior. The win gave UWEC its first ever conference championship and keeps the Blugolds undefeated at home with an 8-0 record.

Defense: "Allison Smith, D, Fr., Bloomington, MN/Jefferson"
In four games this week, Smith helped the Blugolds earn their 1st ever conference championship with two defensive shut outs against UW-Stout and UW-Superior. This gives UWEC 11 shutouts for the season.

October 10, 2005-October 16, 2005

Offense: "Marcia Foltz, M, Sr., Madison, WI/Memorial"
Foltz had'two goals vs. UW-Whitewater, including her 5th game winning goal of the year, and an assist vs. the Pointers. The two goals were two minutes apart from each other, and helped seal the 4-1 victory over UW-W. Foltz assist vs. the Pointers was simply beautiful. She beat two defenders off the dribble towards the end line and sent the ball across the goal mouth to a striking Kooistra, who put it away, bringing the Blugolds up 2-1 at the time.

Defense: " Becky Westbrock, D, Jr. Oakdale, MN/North St. Paul"
Becky proved that she is an All ' Conference defender this past weekend. After battling an injury vs. UW ' Whitewater she came back the next day vs. the Pointers and played 110 minutes to help the Blugolds move into a tie for 1st place in the conference standings. Becky simply had a gut wrenching performance on Saturday and showed why she is one of the top defenders in the league.

October 3, 2005-October 9, 2005

Offense: "Emily Meisinger, Midfielder, Jr., Green Bay, WI/Notre Dame Academy"
In two games this week vs. two ranked teams in the NSCAA Central region, Meisinger had two game winning goals. The first goal came off a corner kick in overtime vs. conference rival River Falls. The second was scored in the 85th minute on a beautiful through ball from Marcia Foltz. Both goals were the first for Meisinger, and helped the Blugolds stay undefeated at home.

Defense: " Allie Rivard, Goalkeeper, So., Wayzata, MN and Liz Weirick, Goalkeeper, So., Kenosha, WI/Tremper"
The Blugold goal keeping tandem of Rivard and Weirick has been simply amazing this season. The Blugolds, ranked 16th in the NCAA with a goals against of .36, continued its strong success this week. The Blugolds were able to keep River Falls off the score board for the first time this season, while they also left Loras, the top team in the Iowa Conference, scoreless as well. The Blugolds have now tailed 8 shut outs in 12 games.

September 26, 2005-October 2, 2005

Offense: "Marcia Foltz, Sr., Madison, WI/Memorial"
Foltz scored the game winning goal in the Blugolds victory over Oshkosh, to snap the Titans 6 game winning streak. The goal also helped the Blugolds stay undefeated in conference play with a 3-0 record.

Defense: "Allie Rivard, So., Wayzata, MN"
Rivard helped the Blugolds earn their 7th shut out in 10 games. Rivard made a save in the second half when she came off her line and took the ball off the Oshkosh forward's foot. The defensive contributions by Rivard are why the Blugolds have yet to give up a second half goal this season.

September 19, 2005-September 25, 2005

Offense: "Maria Iaizzo, Forward, Sr., White Bear Lake, MN"
Iaizzo had one goal and a game winning assist in three games this week. Her goal came against Macalester, the 5th nationally ranked team by the NSCAA. The goal pulled the Blugolds within one goal of tying the game, and helped to out shot Macalester 10-2 in the second half. In the win against Elmhurst, Iaizzo connected with Elizabeth Kooistra to assist on the game winning goal.

Defense: "Anna Talbot, Defender, So., Apple Valley, MN. /Eastview"
Talbot played a big role in the three games played by the Blugolds this week. Contributing to the shut out vs. Gustavus, shutting down Macalester in the 2nd half, and then helping the Blugolds earn its 6th victory out of 8 games with a win over Elmhurst.

September 12, 2005-September 18, 2005

Defense: "Abby Ofstedahl, Defender, So., Apple Valley, MN/East View"
Ofstedahl helped the Blugolds win two conference games with some impressive defensive stands. Ofstedahl helped hold UW-Platteville to two shots on goal in a 2-0 Blugold victory. Against UW-La Crosse, the top scoring team in the conference, Ofstedahl and the Blugold defense held the Eagles to two shots on goal in the first half and did not allow an Eagle goal until the 66th minute in a 2-1 Blugold victory. The Eagle goal was the first goal allowed by the Blugolds this season and snapped a scoreless streak of 453 minutes.

Offense: "Liz Kooistra, Forward, Fr., Lakeville, MN"
Kooistra scored two goals in 1:17 to help give the Blugolds a 2-1 victory over UW-La Crosse. The win put the Blugolds on top of the conference standings with a 2-0-0 record. Kooistra scored goals at 52:28 and 53:45 to give the Blugolds a 2-0 lead against the Eagles.

September 5, 2005-September 11, 2005

Defense: " Allie Rivard, Goalie, Fr., Wayzata, MN & Liz Weirick, Goalie, So., Kenosha, WI/Tremper"
Rivard and Weirick posted 180 minutes of shutout soccer in two victories over St. Thomas (MN) and Illinois Wesleyan. Rivard recorded the lone save in a 3-0 victory over St. Thomas while Rivard posted three saves and Weirick four in a 1-0 win over Illinois Wesleyan. The Blugolds have not surrendered a goal this season, playing 290 minutes of scoreless soccer.

Offense: "Marcia Foltz, Midfielder, Sr., Madison, WI/Memorial"
Foltz scored or assisted every goal this week as the Blugolds posted shutout victories over St. Thomas (MN) and Illinois Wesleyan. In a 3-0 win over St. Thomas Foltz assisted on all three Blugolds goals. All three goals were scored within 29 minutes of each other. Foltz scored the only goal in a 1-0 victory over the Titans scoring the game's lone goal on a penalty kick at 34:51 in the first half.

August 27, 2005-September 4, 2005

Defense: "Allison Smith, Fr., Bloomington, MN/Jefferson"
Smith helped the Blugolds earn 110 minutes of shut out soccer. Last season Augsburg finished 4th in their conference and were 7-1 at home leading the MIAC in scoring in 2004. Smith helped the Blugold sustain a major momentum swing in the second half and held off a series of attacks from Augsburg.
