2012 Soccer Athletes of the Week

October 22, 2012-October 28, 2012

Offense: Tara Dennehy, Midfielder, 5-8, Freshman, Eugene, Ore./Churchill
Dennehy was instrumental in giving the Blugolds a 2-1 double overtime win Saturday against UW-La Crosse, allowing the Blugolds to finish second in the WIAC this season. Down 1-0, Dennehy scored a goal in the 75th minute and then scored the game-winner just 20 seconds before the final horn sounded in the second overtime.

Defense: Nina Behrenbrinker, Goalkeeper, 5-8, Junior, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall
Behrenbrinker helped the Blugolds to a second place finish in the WIAC this season after the team beat UW-La Crosse 2-1 in double overtime Saturday. She made four saves against the Eagles, playing 109:40 and giving up just one goal. For the season, she is now 9-7-2 overall.

October 15, 2012-October 21, 2012

Offense: Paige LeGate, Forward, 5-5, Junior, Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port
LeGate scored one goal in two games this week, which helped the Blugolds tie Wartburg College (Iowa), a team receiving votes in the national rankings and ranked third in the region, Sunday. In that game, she finished with two shots on goal. Wednesday in a 1-0 loss to the University of St. Thomas (Minn.), LeGate was part of an offense that finished with eight shots on-goal to just four for the Tommies.

Defense: Nina Behrenbrinker, Goalkeeper, 5-8, Junior, St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall
Playing 200 minutes in-goal this week, Behrenbrinker allowed just two goals in two games while making 12 saves. Against Wartburg College (Iowa), a team receiving votes in the national rankings and ranked third in the region, Sunday, she made nine saves, giving up just one goal in the second period, allowing the Blugolds a tie in double overtime against the Knights. Facing the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) on Wednesday, she stopped three shots as the Blugolds fell 1-0. Behrenbrinker is now 8-7-2 on the season.

October 8, 2012-October 14, 2012

Defense: Kara Ryan, Defender, 5-5, Junior, Plymouth, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong
In two games this week, the Blugolds narrowly fell both times, 1-0 against UW-River Falls on Saturday and 23rd-ranked Concordia-Moorhead (Minn.) on Sunday. Ryan and the rest of the Blugold defense gave up just 20 shots, only 12 of which were on-goal, while Eau Claire compiled 22 shots, 13 of which were on-goal. Ryan took two shots in the game against River Falls.

October 1, 2012-October 7, 2012

Offense: Katie Richter, Forward, 5-5, Senior, Waukesha, Wis./West
Richter had the Blugolds' lone goal Saturday against UW-Platteville in a 1-0 win, helping the team to its seventh straight victory to tie the seventh longest winning streak in school history. She found the back of the net against the Pioneers at 68:31 for her fourth goal of the year. Richter had two shots, both on goal, in that game, after compiling two shots on goal Wednesday as the Blugolds beat St. Olaf College (Minn.) 1-0.

Defense: Ashley O'Connell, Defender, 5-5, Freshman, Appleton, Wis./East
In two games this week, both of which the Blugolds won 1-0, O'Connell and the rest of the Blugold defense allowed a total of 18 shots while Eau Claire recorded 30. Against St. Olaf College (Minn.) on Wednesday, the Blugolds gave up 13 shots while allowing only five, including just three on-goal, against UW-Platteville on Saturday. The win over the Pioneers on Saturday gave the Blugolds their seventh straight victory to tie the seventh longest winning streak in school history.

September 24, 2012-September 30, 2012

Offense: Paige LeGate, Forward, 5-5, Junior, Green Bay, Wis./Bay Port
The Blugolds recorded two victories this week to push their winning streak to four games. On Saturday, hosting UW-Oshkosh, a team ranked No. 15 in the NSCAA national poll and No. 1 in the North Region, LeGate scored the game's first goal and picked up an assist on what proved to be the game-winning goal. The Blugolds went on to win the match 4-2, handing the Titans their first loss of the season. Wednesday in a 5-1 win over Luther College (Iowa), LeGate finished with two shots, including one on-goal.

Defense: Emily Moore, Defender, 5-10, Senior, Brookfield, Wis./Central
Moore was part of a defense that allowed just 23 shots, only 12 of which were on-goal, as the Blugolds won 5-1 over Luther College (Iowa) on Wednesday and 4-2 over UW-Oshkosh, a team ranked No. 15 in the NSCAA national poll and No. 1 in the North Region, on Saturday. The Blugolds are currently on a four-game winning streak.

September 17, 2012-September 23, 2012

Offense: Gina Williams, Forward, 5-6, Senior, Madison, Wis./Verona Area
Williams was instrumental in helping the Blugolds win two overtime contests at home this week. Wednesday against No. 1-ranked Wheaton College (Ill.) with the Thunder up 1-0, Williams scored the tying goal at 86:09, sending the game into overtime. Then, in the second overtime at 102:33, Williams scored again to lift the Blugolds to the 2-1 victory, their first over Wheaton in the teams' 13-game series. It was also Wheaton's first loss of the season. Facing UW-Stevens Point on Saturday, the Blugolds took a 2-0 lead but the Pointers tied the game with two goals in the second half. Just 59 seconds into the first overtime, Williams scored on a penalty kick to give the Blugolds a 3-2 victory. She finished the week with 10 shots, seven of them on-goal.

Behrenbrinker played two complete, overtime games for the Blugolds this week and Eau Claire came away with wins in both. Wednesday against Wheaton College (Ill.), ranked No. 1 in the nation, she stopped three shots and allowed just one goal against a team that had been averaging almost three goals per game this year. The Blugolds won that game 2-1 for their first win over Wheaton in the teams' 13-game series. It was also Wheaton's first loss of the season. Saturday facing UW-Stevens Point, Behrenbrinker made seven saves while allowing just two goals as the Blugolds won 3-2 in overtime.

Offense: Gina Williams, Forward, 5-6, Senior, Madison, Wis./Verona Area
Williams scored two goals this week as the Blugolds beat UW-Stout 2-0 Wednesday while coming up short 2-1 to UW-Whitewater on Saturday. Facing the Blue Devils, Williams found the back of the goal at 58:42 to give Eau Claire a 2-0 lead. She also picked up the assist on the Blugolds' first goal of the game. Saturday, taking on Whitewater, the Blugolds were down 2-0 before Williams cut the lead to one at 57:36 with a goal. She now has five points on the season.

Moore was part of a Blugold defense that gave up just 19 shots in two games, including eight on-goal, while Eau Claire finished with 28 shots, 11 of which were on-goal. The Blugolds shut out UW-Stout on Wednesday as they won 2-0 while giving up two goals to UW-Whitewater on Saturday in a 2-1 loss.

September 3, 2012-September 9, 2012

Offense: Allie Stone, Midfielder, 5-6, Junior, Madison, Wis./Verona Area
Stone scored the Blugolds' first goal of the season Saturday as the team tied the College of Saint Benedict 1-1 in Eau Claire's 2012 home opener. Stone also finished that game with three shots, all of them being on goal. On Wednesday, she started in the Blugolds' game at Carleton College (Minn.).

Defense: Ashley O'Connell, Defender, 5-5, Freshman, Appleton, Wis./East
O'Connell started two games this week, one at Carleton College (Minn.) on Wednesday and another at home against the College of Saint Benedict on Saturday. Against Carleton, the Blugolds allowed eight shots, only five of which were on-goal, while allowing 17 Saturday, 10 of which were on-goal, in a 1-1 tie against Saint Benedict.

August 27, 2012-September 2, 2012

Defense: Megan Hanson, Defender, 5-8, Freshman, Verona, Wis./Verona Area
Hanson began her collegiate career this weekend facing two ranked opponents in New York. Hanson and the rest of the Blugold defense allowed just one goal against 19th-ranked Ithaca College (N.Y.) Friday to start the season and facing second-ranked William Smith College (N.Y.), they played strong in the first half, allowing just one goal but gave up three in the second half. For the weekend, the Blugolds allowed just 13 shots-on-goal.
