2006 Outdoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

April 24, 2006-April 30, 2006

Field: "Stephanie Barnes, Jr., Sauk City, WI/Sauk Prairie"
Barnes shined with her performance in the pole vault at the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson (IA) College. In a field featuring several NCAA Division I, II and III competitors Barnes won the event clearing 12-11 (3.94 meters). The winning height was 11 inches better than second place finisher Jill Sterenkowski of North Dakota State. Barnes set the school record and currently ranks first nationally in the pole vault among all Division III schools.

Track: "Liz Kooistra, Fr., Lakeville, MN"
Kooistra was the top Division III finisher at the Kip Janvrin Open hosted by Simpson (IA) College. In an event featuring 50 competitors from several NCAA Division I, II and III schools Kooistra finished third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.25. The only competitors that finished ahead of Kooistra were from Division II Augustana (SD) and North Dakota. Kooistra currently ranks ninth nationally in the 800-meter run among all Division III schools.

April 17, 2006-April 23, 2006

Field: "Paula Crossfield, Jr., Madison, WI/East"
Crossfield had a career day winning the discus at the Phil Esten Challenge hosted by UW-La Crosse. Crossfield won the event with a lifetime best and NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 142-1 (43.3 meters). Crossfield won the event by over 17 feet. With her effort Crossfield currently ranks third nationally.

Track: "Liz Kooistra, Fr., Lakeville, MN"
Kooistra set a school record en route to winning the 400-meter dash at the Phil Esten Challenge hosted by UW-La Crosse. Kooistra won the event clocking in at an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 56.71 winning the event by over 1.3 seconds. The time broke the record held by former Blugold All-American Breanna McMullen on May 10, 2002 of 57.22. Both times were run at UW-La Crosse. Kooistra's time currently has her ranked sixth in the nation.

April 10, 2006-April 16, 2006

Field: "Erin Kokta, Sr., Brookfield, WI/East"
Kokta finished first in the long jump, second in the triple jump and third in the high jump at the Blugold Open hosted by UW-Eau Claire. Kokta won the long jump going 18-7.75 (5.68 m) and currently ranks tied for fourth in the nation with her effort. In the triple jump Kokta leaped 37-10 (11.53 m) which currently ranks fifth in the nation. Kokta completed the jumping events finishing third in the high jump clearing 5-3 (1-6 m).

Track: "Liz Faller, Jr., Marinette, WI"
Faller set a career record in the 100-meter hurdles at the Blugold Open hosted by UW-Eau Claire. Faller completed the race in 14.60 seconds and currently ranks fifth nationally in the 100 hurdles for her performance.

April 3, 2006-April 9, 2006

Field: "Lonyll Seeley, Fr., Two Harbors, MN"
Seeley set a lifetime best in the hammer throw at the UW-River Falls Invitational. Seeley finished ninth in the hammer with a toss of 99-8 (30.38 m). Seeley competed in the javelin for the first time in her career finishing seventh with a throw of 94-11 (28.94 m).

Track: "Kjersten Holt, So., Long Prairie, MN/LP Grey Eagle"
Holt posted a first and second place finish at the UW-River Falls Invitational. Holt won the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.65 seconds and second in the 100-meter dash completing the finals in 13.01.

March 27, 2006-April 2, 2006

Field: "Paula Crossfield, Jr., Madison, WI/East"
Crossfield had a career day as the Blugolds took first place at the nine-team Viking Olympics hosted by Augustana (IL) College. Crossfield finished sixth in the discus throwing 128-10 (39.26 m), eighth in the hammer throw covering 137-2 (41.80 m) and 11th in the shot put going 35-0.25 (10.67 m). In the meet Crossfield recorded a lifetime best performance in the hammer throw.

Track: "Molly Warner, So., Mosinee, WI"
Warner go her outdoor season off to a fast start as the Blugolds took first place at the nine-team Viking Olympics hosted by Augustana (IL) College. Warner won the 5K with a NCAA provisional-qualifying time of 17:40.99. The time was 1:31 faster than her next closest competitor. The time set a meet record and was a lifetime best performance for Warner.

February 27, 2006-March 5, 2006

Field: "Erin Kokta, Sr., Brookfield, WI/East"
Kokta won the long jump, took second in the triple jump and third in the high jump at the WIAC Indoor Championships hosted by UW-Stevens Point. Kokta won the long jump with a school-record leap of 18-9.25 (5.72 m) and now is ranked second in the nation for her effort. Kokta also finished fifth in the 55-meter dash to account for 28 points over the two-day championships.

Track: "Liz Faller, Jr., Marinette, WI"
Faller won the 55-meter hurdles with at winning time of 8.36 seconds at the WIAC Indoor Championships hosted by UW-Stevens Point. Faller's winning team currently ranks sixth in NCAA Division III. Faller was also a member of the 4 x 400-meter relay which finished second and the 4 x 200-meter relay which finished third.

February 13, 2006-February 19, 2006

Field: "Erin Kokta, Sr., Brookfield, WI/East"
Kokta had a big weekend that saw her win the high, long and triple jumps while placing second in the 55 and 200-meter runs. Kokta won the high jump clearing 5-3.25 (1.61 m), covered 17-7 (5.36 m) in the long jump and 35-2.5 (10.73 m) in the triple jump. Kokta set personal best in the 55 and 200-meter dashes with times of 7.51 and 27.39 seconds, respectively. Kokta was also a member of the first place 4 x 400-meter relay team.

Track: "Liz Faller, Jr., Marinette, WI"
Faller won the 55-meter hurdles at the UW-Stout Invite posting an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 8.52 seconds. The time is the fastest in the WIAC this season and ranks 13th nationally.

February 6, 2006-February 12, 2006

Track: "Molly Warner, So., Mosinee, WI"
Warner ran a career-best 17:55.75 in the 5,000-meter run to earn first place honors in the event at the four-team Border Battle hosted by St. Olaf (MN) College. Warner missed the NCAA provisional mark of 17:55 by less than a second in the event.

Field: "Erin Kokta, Sr., Brookfield, WI/East"
Kokta won first place in the long jump, second in the triple jump and 55-meter run to go with a fourth place finish in the high jump in helping the Blugolds win the four-team Border Battle hosted by St. Olaf (MN) College. Kokta won the long jump with a NCAA provisional qualifying jump of 18-0.5 (5.50 m). The jump was a season best and currently ranks ninth nationally. Kokta would also reach a NCAA provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump covering 36-8.5 (11.19 m) which currently ranks 13th nationally. Running the 55-meter run for the first time in her career, Kokta finished second in a time of 7.57 seconds and finished fourth in the high jump with a leap of 4-10.5 (1.54 m).

January 31, 2006-February 5, 2006

Field: "Stephanie Barnes, Jr., Sauk City, WI/Sauk Prairie"
Barnes won the pole vault with an NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 12-8 (3.86 m) at the seven-team Warren Bowlus Open hosted by UW-Stout. Barnes won the event by 2-6.75 over the next closest competitor and is the top NCAA Division III performance this season setting a school record in the process. The Blugolds won the event by 118 points over the host Blue Devils.

Track: "Liz Faller, Jr., Marinette, WI"
Faller won the 55-meter hurdles with a NCAA provisional time of 8.55 seconds at the Warren Bowlus Open hosted by UW-Stout. Faller's time in the event was a career best as she won the event by .37 seconds. The Blugolds won the event by 118 points over the host Blue Devils.

January 22, 2006-January 29, 2006

Field: "Erin Kokta, Sr., Brookfield, WI/East"
Kokta won the long jump at the UW-Whitewater Invite with a NCAA provisional qualifying jump of 17-9 (5.41 m). Her next-closest competitor jumped 17-2.75 (5.25 m).

Track: "Liz Kooistra, Fr., Lakeville, MN"
Kooistra finished third in the 800-meter run at the UW-Whitewater Invite. Running the event for the first time ever, Kooistra finished in a time of 2:21. Kooistra also ran the lead off of both the 4 x 200 and 4 x 400-meter relays running splits of 26.29 and 59.21, respectively.
