2008-09 Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

April 20, 2009-April 26, 2009

Track: Mary Palmer, Senior, Anoka, Minn.
Friday at the Gina Relays in Hillsdale, Michigan, Palmer recorded the best time by more than two seconds in the 10,000-meter run in the conference this season as she took third with a time of 35:59.05. Her mark was an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time and the seventh fastest time in Division III this season.

Field: Amy Morse, Senior, Kaukauna, Wis.
Morse won the discus throw with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying toss of 45.20 meters (148-3) on Saturday at the Loras College Open. Her throw was the third best in the conference this season and the sixth best throw in the nation this year.

April 13, 2009-April 19, 2009

Track: Liz Kooistra, Senior, Lakeville, Minn.
Kooistra won the 400-meter championship at the prestigious Kansas Relays in a school-record time of 55.12 seconds. She broke her own school standard of 55.68 seconds which she set in placing fourth at last year's NCAA Division III outdoor nationals. There were a total of 32 participants in the 400 at the Kansas Relays. Kooistra had the fourth fastest qualifying time at 55.95 but blew away the field in the final to win by 45/100ths of a second. The original field included no less than 13 Division I athletes. Seton Hall's Clarrise Moh had the best qualifying time at 55.26.To put Kooistra's time into perspective, it is the fastest in Division III this year by more than a full second (56.28 is the next best). Her time would have placed fifth in last year's Big Ten outdoor championships. It is faster than seven Division III national championships since the outdoor championships began in 1982. The WIAC outdoor championships record is 55.45. The stadium record at Marietta College where the DIII outdoor championships will be held is 57.63. Right now, Kooistra is the only automatic qualifier for that event.Kooistra also ran the anchor on the 4x400 relay team which finished eighth out of a starting field of 20 teams. The event was won by Division I Missouri State.

Field: Brittany Frederick, Freshman, Green Bay, Wis./Preble
This weekend at the Phil Esten Challenge, Frederick won the discus while taking second in the hammer throw and fourth in the shot put as the Blugolds took fourth out of eight teams. She won the discus with a toss of 42.82 meters (140-6), an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark. She also took second in the hammer throw with a provisional qualifying distance of 50.73 meters (166-5), the 10th farthest throw in the nation this season. Frederick also took home fourth in the shot put with a distance of 12.52 meters (41-1).

April 6, 2009-April 12, 2009

Track: Hannah Humbach, Junior, Madison, Wis./Abundant Life
Humbach won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:47.46, almost two seconds faster than the rest of the field, at Friday's UW-Platteville Open.

Field: Brittany Frederick, Freshman, Green Bay, Wis./Preble
Frederick took home two first place finishes at the UW-Platteville Open on Friday. She won the shot put with a distance of 13.06 meters (42-10.25) while she finished first in the discus throw with a toss of 42.90 meters (140-09). She also took 12th in the hammer throw with a distance of 37.21 meters (122-01).

March 30, 2009-April 5, 2009

Track: Liz Amici, Sophomore, Whitewater, Wis.
Amici took first in the 100-meter hurdles event with a time of 15.81 while the Blugolds won the UW-Oshkosh Invitational.

Field: Julia Baranek, Freshman, Port Washington, Wis.
Baranek helped the Blugolds take home first place at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational Saturday with a first place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 11.01 meters (36-01.50) and a second place spot in the high jump with a height of 1.57 meters (5-1.75).

February 16, 2009-February 22, 2009

Track: Alyssa Sybilrud, Freshman, Savage, Minn./Burnsville
With the Blugolds winning the UW-Stevens Point Eastbay Invitational on Saturday, Sybilrud had the Blugolds' best finish on the track, taking first in the 1-mile run with a time of 5:14.00. She finished almost five seconds faster than the rest of the field.

Field: Chelsea Becker, Senior, Rice Lake, Wis.
Becker finished third in the pole vault as the Blugolds took first place out of seven teams at UW-Stevens Point's Eastbay Invitational. She reached a height of 3.52 meters (11-6 '), an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark.

February 9, 2009-February 15, 2009

Track: Mary Palmer, Senior, Anoka, Minn.
This weekend at UW-Platteville's Nike/Impact Sports Open, Palmer took the top spot in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 17:23.03, finishing almost 40 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. He time was an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time.

Field: Brittany Frederick, Freshman, Green Bay, Wis./Preble
Frederick won the shot put event with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying distance of 13.40 (43-11 ') meters and was ninth in the weight throw with a distance of 15.35 (50-4 '), also a provisional qualifying mark at UW-Platteville's Nike/Impact Sports Open.

February 2, 2009-February 8, 2009

Track: Liz Kooistra, Senior, Lakeville, Minn.
Kooistra won the 400-meter dash with an NCAA Division III qualifying time of 57.29 as Blugolds finished second out of 13 teams at UW-Stevens Point's Eastbay Invite Saturday.

Field: Amy Morse, Senior, Kaukauna, Wis.
With the Blugolds taking second place out of 13 teams at UW-Stevens Point's Eastbay Invite Saturday, Morse took fourth in the weight throw with a distance of 15.34 meters, falling just short of an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying mark.

January 26, 2009-February 1, 2009

Track: Liz Kooistra, Senior, Lakeville, Minn.
Kooistra set a school record at this weekend's Warren Bowlus Open in Menomonie. She took the top spot in the 600-meter run with a time of 1:35.35, more than seven seconds faster than the rest of the field. Her time was more than two seconds faster than the previous school record.

Field: Hayley Suckow, Junior, Elk Mound, Wis.
Suckow won the pole vault this weekend at the Warren Bowlus Open with a national qualifying height of 3.76 meters (12-4).

January 19, 2009-January 25, 2009

Track: Mary Palmer, Sr., Anoka, Minn.
Palmer took first place in the 3000-yard run to help the Blugolds to a first place finish at the UW-Stevens Point Triangular this weekend. She finished with a time of 10:06.52, more than 20 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.

Field: Field ?Julia Baranek, Freshman, Port Washington, Wis.
Baranek won two events as the Blugolds finished first at UW-Stevens Point's Triangular meet on Saturday. She took the top spot in the high jump with a height of 1.52 meters and also won the triple jump with a distance of 10.16 meters.

January 12, 2009-January 18, 2009

Track: Mary Palmer, Sr., Anoka, Minn.
Palmer won the 1-mile run with a time of 5:11.04 to start the season with the Blugold Open on Friday. The team ended the meet in third place out of six teams.

Field: Hayley Suckow, Jr., Elk Mound, Wis.
With the Blugolds taking third place out of six teams to open the season with the Blugold Open, Suckow took first in the pole vault with a provisional qualifying height of 3.45 meters (11-3 ').
