2010-11 Ice Hockey Athletes of the Week

February 14, 2011-February 20, 2011

Christine Dickinson, Forward, 5-3, Senior, Layton, Utah/Shattuck-St. Mary's
Dickinson played a crucial role in helping the Blugolds gain home ice in the first round of the NCHA playoffs, the first time the Blugolds have hosted in program history. With the Blugolds needing a win in order to host, Dickinson stepped up and scored the eventual game-winner at 14:17 in the third period. The goal was her seventh of the season and third game-winner. The Blugolds went on to beat St. Scholastica 3-2 on Saturday while the teams tied 1-1 in overtime Friday. Dickinson finished with seven shots this weekend.

February 7, 2011-February 13, 2011

Toni Simones, Forward, 5-4, Junior, Rosemount, Minn.
Simones picked up two assists in two games at Adrian College (Mich.) this weekend. On Friday, she assisted on both of the Blugolds' goals, one at 8:25 in the second and one at 13:34 in the third, but the Blugolds came up just short 3-2. She also had five shots over the weekend. Simones is currently second on the team with 16 points and leads the Blugolds with 11 assists on the season.

January 31, 2011-February 6, 2011

Mara Stormer, Goalie, 5-4, Sophomore, Waunakee, Wis.
The Blugolds pushed their unbeaten streak to 10 games this weekend after defeating Concordia University (Wis.) 5-3 on Friday before tying the Falcons 2-2 in overtime Saturday. She played all 125 minutes and stopped 67 shots, 39 of which came on Saturday. She now has a 7-1-4 record on the season and holds a .911 save percentage and 1.52 goals-against average.

January 24, 2011-January 30, 2011

Mara Stormer, Goalie, 5-4, Sophomore, Waunakee, Wis.
Stormer helped the Blugolds stay undefeated in 2011 with a win and a tie against Lake Forest College (Ill.) at home this weekend. In Friday's game, Stormer stopped 25 shots to help the Blugolds to a 1-1 tie while she recorded her first shutout of the season, and the team's fifth, in a 2-0 victory Saturday. In the win, she stopped 20 shots to improve to 6-1-3 on the season. The five shutouts ties for a school record for most in a season. Eau Claire also finished with a 6-0-2 record in January, setting a school record for consecutive games without a loss, and it was the first time in program history the Blugolds did not lose a game in the month of January.

January 17, 2011-January 23, 2011

Kristin Faber, Forward, 5-8, Senior, Austin, Minn.
Faber helped the Blugolds remain undefeated in the new year as they won two games against UW-Stevens Point, a team that received votes in the latest USCHO.com poll. On Friday in a 5-3 win, Faber picked up the fourth hat-trick of her career. She scored at 3:34 in the second period to tie the game at 1-1 and again at 19:12 in the period to tie the game at 3-3. Faber then scored a short-handed goal at 15:48 in the third period, which eventually proved to be the game-winner. In Saturday's 3-1 win, Faber scored on an empty net with 39 seconds to play. She now has 14 goals on the season to go along with nine assists. "Faber's efforts this weekend were that of a true leader and great competitor," head coach Mike Collins said. "With a young, beat up team, she took the team on her back and scored four times at critical moments to lead to the first-ever sweep of Stevens Point in program history."

January 10, 2011-January 16, 2011

Dani Kerr, Forward, 5-5, Sophomore, Little Canada, Minn./Roseville
The Blugolds played one game this week and tied the University of St. Thomas (Minn.) 2-2 in overtime. In the contest, Kerr scored the game-tying goal at 8:25 in the third period. It was Kerr's third goal of the season.

January 3, 2011-January 9, 2011

Abbie Hawthorne, Forward, 5-8, Sophomore, Brookfield, Wis./Central
Hawthorne helped the Blugolds win two games this weekend to stay undefeated (3-0) in January. Against conference opponent Finlandia University (Mich.) on Friday, she scored the Blugolds' fourth goal of the game in a 5-0 win. The Blugolds also won Saturday 4-1 to sweep the weekend series.

December 20, 2010-January 2, 2011

Toni Simones, Forward, 5-4, Junior, Rosemount, Minn./South St. Paul
Simones scored a goal and recorded an assist as the Blugolds opened 2011 with a 5-0 victory over Hamline University (Minn.) on Sunday. At 10:56 in the first period, she assisted on the eventual game-winner, her third assist of the season. She also scored her third goal of the season at 16:53 to give the Blugolds a 3-0 advantage.

December 6, 2010-December 12, 2010

Kelli Johnson, Defenseman, 5-3, Senior, Farmington, Minn.
Johnson scored two goals and picked up one assist in two overtime contests against conference leader UW-Superior this weekend. In a 3-3 tie on Saturday, Johnson helped by assisting on the game-tying goal. Sunday, despite a 3-2 overtime loss, Johnson found the back of the net for both of Eau Claire's goals. Her first goal of the game, which was also her first of the season, tied the game up a 1-1 and she then scored again 37 seconds into the third period to give the Blugolds a 2-1 lead. Superior went on to tie the game seven minutes later and won it midway through overtime.

November 29, 2010-December 5, 2010

Kelli Johnson, Defenseman, 5-3, Senior, Farmington, Minn.
Johnson had strong defensive performances both nights against ranked UW-River Falls this weekend despite two losses. Starting both games on defense, River Falls narrowly escaped with a 3-2 overtime win Saturday. In that game, the Blugolds scored at 18:33 in the second period to tie it up and Johnson, along with the rest of the defense, played a role in helping stop 37 shots. On Friday, the Blugolds lost 7-4 but allowed just 29 shots.

November 8, 2010-November 14, 2010

Kristin Faber, Forward, 5-8, Senior, Austin, Minn.
Faber helped the Blugolds to a 4-2 victory over St. Norbert College with a goal and an assist Saturday. While the Blugolds were down 1-0 after the first period, Faber assisted on the game-tying goal at 2:45 in the second period. Just over two minutes later she scored the go-ahead goal. The Blugolds added two more goals in the third period for the win.

November 1, 2010-November 7, 2010

Casey McMullen, Forward, 5-6, Sophomore, Minneapolis, Minn./South
McMullen scored the Blugolds' first goal Saturday in a 4-3 win over St. Mary's University (Minn.) for Eau Claire's 100th win in program history. The goal came at 6:20 in the opening period. She also had one shot in the Blugolds' season-opener at St. Mary's on Friday.
