2003-04 Ice Hockey Athletes of the Week

February 16, 2004-February 22, 2004

Clare Parda, So., Waukesha
Parda played a huge role in two key wins over Lake Forest as the Blugolds topped the Foresters 3-0 and 2-1. The wins broke and extended the Blugold record for wins in a single season. Eau Claire recorded 10 victories this season with the previous record being eight win one year ago. Parda played great defensively from her forward position and limited the Foresters to just one goal in 64:31 of hockey. She also tallied an assist on the Blugolds' second goal of their 3-0 victory on Friday night.

February 9, 2004-February 15, 2004

Sara Steinhoff, Goalie,So., West St. Paul, MN (Henry Sibley)
Steinhoff held the ninth-ranked UW-Superior offense in check and kept both games close. The Blugolds fell on back-to-back nights to the Yellowjackets but Steinhoff stopped 38 shots in a 5-1 loss on Friday and made 28 saves in a 3-1 loss on Saturday.

February 2, 2004-February 8, 2004

Steinhoff absolutely dominated between the pipes in a thrilling 2-0 victory over sixth-seeded and conference leading UW-Stevens Point. The Pointers handed the Blugolds a 9-0 loss Friday night but Steinhoff made sure it did not happen again, stopping all 24 shots she faced including making several spectacular saves, including a diving save with one minute remaining in the game to preserve a 1-0 Blugold lead. The rebound went off of Steinhoff to Allison Timberg who sent it the length of the ice for an empty-net goal.

January 19, 2004-January 25, 2004

Karen Hebert, Forward, Fr., Lakeville, MN (Academy of the Holy Angels)
Hebert had a phenomenal game in the Blugolds' 9-2 rout of St. Catherine. The freshman Blugold assisted on the game-winning goal in the first period and also scored the Blugolds ninth and final goal of the game.

January 12, 2004-January 18, 2004

Sara Steinhoff, Goalie, So., West St. Paul, MN (Henry Sibley)
Steinhoff led the Blugolds to two Northern Collegiate Hockey Association shut out victories over Lake Forest as the Blugolds topped the Foresters 5-0 on Friday and 1-0 on Saturday. Steinhoff played the first two periods in goal on Friday and played all 60 minutes in goal on Saturday, totaling 100 scoreless minutes in net for the Blugolds. She made 15 saves between the two games.

January 5, 2004-January 11, 2004

Allison Campbell, Defense, Fr., Plymouth, MN (Wayzata)
Campbell earned her first ever assist in collegiate hockey and second ever point, assisting on the Blugolds first goal of the night in an eventual 5-2 loss to St. Mary's. The goal gave the Blugolds a 1-0 lead but the Cardinals would come behind to steal the victory from the Blugolds.

December 28, 2003-January 4, 2004

Tara Berlute, Goalie, Jr., Bloomington, MN (Holy Angels)
Berlute led the Blugolds to their best week of the season as Eau Claire dominated Bethel College 8-2 on Friday night and capped off the weekend with an incredible 3-2 win over ninth-ranked St. Thomas. Against Bethel, Berlute earned the win as she stopped 11 of the 13 Royal shots that came her way but her best performance came against nationally-ranked St. Thomas. Berlute played incredibly as she allowed just one even strength goal and one power play goals as St. Thomas fired 26 shots on net. She made several great saves in the victory.

December 8, 2003-December 14, 2003

Martina Korinek, Forward, Fr., White Bear Lake, MN
Korinek played well despite two tough losses to fourth-ranked UW-Stevens Point this weekend. She played with great effort and created many opportunities all weekend long.

December 1, 2003-December 7, 2003

Karen Hebert, Forward, Fr., Lakeville, MN (Academy of the Holy Angels)
Hebert played well in her first weekend of heavy action for the Blugolds as the freshman worked extremely hard against a tough River Falls team and created several solid scoring opportunities. With diligent fore-checking, Hebert made it tough on the opposing offense as the Falcons were held to just three goals on Friday night.

November 24, 2003-November 30, 2003

Laura Suppes, Forward, Fr., Falcon Heights, MN
Suppes was a huge part of a Blugold comeback against St. Kate's in a 4-4 tie. After trailing 2-0 in the second period, the Blugolds scored a goal early in the second and Suppes tied the game at two just eight seconds later with her first goal of the night. Midway through the third, Suppes erased a 4-3 deficit with her second goal of the game to give the Blugolds the 4-4 tie.

November 10, 2003-November 16, 2003

Sara Steinhoff, Goalie, So., West St. Paul, MN (Henry Sibley)
Steinhoff allowed just two goals in two games this weekend as the Blugolds defeated Bethel (MN) 2-1 Friday night while falling 1-0 to St. Mary's (MN) on Saturday. Steinhoff saved 25 of 26 shots on Friday night's victory over the Royals. On Saturday Steinhoff allowed the game's only goal 1:04 into the first period then went on to shut out the Cardinals over the final 58 minutes of the game. Steinhoff saved 20 of 21 shots in the loss.

November 3, 2003-November 9, 2003

Amanda Schultz, Forward, So., Stevens Point (SPASH)
Schultz led the Blugolds to one win and one tie against St. Olaf this weekend as she totaled two goals and an assist. In a 2-2 tie against the Oles on Friday, Schultz scored the Blugolds second goal of the night when she put in a stray rebound to give the Blugolds a 2-1 lead. On Saturday the sophomore forward had another good game as she assisted on the Blugolds first goal of the game and scored the Blugolds second.
