2002-03 Ice Hockey Athletes of the Week

February 10, 2003-February 16, 2003

Christa Hubert, So., Blaine, MN
In the Blugolds' final game of the season Hubert helped lead the Blugolds to a 9-2 stomping of NCHA opponent Lake Forest just one night after being shutout 1-0 against the Foresters. Hubert scored a goal in the first period and the only two goals of the second period as the Blugolds jumped out to a 7-0 lead and Hubert got her first hat trick of the season.

Amanda Schultz, Fr., Stevens Point/SPASH
Finished her rookie season in style as she also scored a hat trick in a 9-2 victory over Lake Forest. Schultz got the Blugolds started with an early first period goal to give them a lead they would never relinquish. Schultz added the first two goals of the third period to get the hat trick. She finishes the season with the Blugold lead in points and goals with 19 and 14 respectively.

January 27, 2003-February 2, 2003

Tara Berlute, Goalie, So., Bloomington, MN (Holy Angels)
Berlute led the Blugolds to a 3-0 win over St. Mary's as she shut out the Cardinals. The Blugolds got a 3-0 win at St. Mary's with the help of 23 saves by the sophomore goalie. The shutout for Berlute was her third of the season.

January 20, 2003-January 26, 2003

Connie Cameron, Forward, Jr., Chippewa Falls (McDonell)
Helped the Blugolds to a 2-2 tie over NCHA and WIAC opponent UW-River Falls just one night after falling to the Falcons 3-1. Cameron tied the game at one in the second period with a power play goal. In the third period, after falling behind 2-1 with only 3:18 remaining in the contest Cameron dished a past out to Christa Hubert for the game-tying goal for Cameron's second point of the game.

Hubert played a huge role in the Blugolds 2-2 tie over River Falls. Hubert assisted on the second period goal by Connie Cameron that knotted the game at one. Late in the game as the Blugolds trailed by one, Hubert took a pass from Cameron and shot it into the net for the game-tying goal.

January 13, 2003-January 19, 2003

Amanda Schultz, Forward, Fr., Stevens Point (SPASH)
Totaled three points in leading the Blugolds to their first ever win over UW-Superior. Schultz got the Blugolds on the board in the first period scoring a goal to give Eau Claire a 1-0 advantage. After two unanswered goals by the Yellowjackets Schultz scored her second goal of the afternoon with 10:13 seconds into the third period to knot the game up at two. Just five minutes later she assisted on a goal by Claire Parda to give the Blugolds a 3-2 lead. Each team would add one more goal to round out the scoring at 4-3.

January 6, 2003-January 12, 2003

Kristi Hawkinson, Forward, Stacy, MN (Forest Lake)
Played a huge role in a 4-4 tie against Northern Collegiate Hockey Association rival Lake Forest as she scored two goals on the evening. Both of her goals brought the Blugolds to within one goal of the Foresters including her goal with 1:20 remaining in the third period that set up the eventual game-tying, power play goal with just 11 seconds remaining.

December 30, 2002-January 5, 2003

Connie Cameron, Forward, Jr., Chippewa Falls (McDonell)
Scored the first of two goals in leading the Blugolds to a 2-1 victory over Bethel College. Coach Mike Collins stated that she played great on both ends of the ice to hold Bethel to just one goal and give the Blugolds a victory.

December 2, 2002-December 8, 2002

Amanda Schultz, Forward, Fr., Stevens Point (SPASH)
Was a big part of the Blugold offense that won a game against Hamline University and tied against St. Catherine this week. Her third period goal gave the Blugolds a 2-0 lead on Hamline en route to Eau Claire's 3-0 shutout victory. Schultz had the biggest goal of the game against St. Catherine on Friday when she scored a late third period goal to tie the Blugolds with the Wildcats at two goals apiece. Her goal completed a two goal comeback and led the Blugolds to a 2-2 tie. Head coach Mike Collins said 'She played very strong on the puck and was determined on the offensive end. She took quality shots which led to her putting the puck in the net.'

November 18, 2002-November 24, 2002

Crystal Wasem, Defense, Fr., Chaska, MN
After five straight scoreless periods against NCHA conference opponent UW-Superior, Wasem got the Blugolds rolling as she took a pass from Jen Mead and put it past the Yellowjacket goaltender. She sparked the Blugolds as they would score two third period goals and tie the game late in the third period.

November 4, 2002-November 11, 2002

Sara Steinhoff, Goalie, Fr., St. Paul (Henry Sibley)
Shut out St. Mary's on Saturday evening to give the Blugolds their first ever win against the Cardinals. She stopped all 27 shots that came her way and led the Blugolds to a 3-1-0 record overall.

October 28, 2002-November 3, 2002

Connie Cameron, Forward, Jr., Chippewa Falls (McDonell)
Assisted the Blugolds first goal of the game against St. Olaf in the first period. The goal put the Blugolds in the lead against a tough St. Olaf team and helped Eau Claire beat Oles 3-2.
