2006 Cross Country Athletes of the Week

November 13, 2006-November 19, 2006

"Ellie Lutz, Sophomore, Eau Claire, WI/Memorial"
Lutz helped the Blugolds to their best team finish at the NCAA Championships since being national runner-ups in 1997 finishing 12th out of 32 teams at the 2006 NCAA Women's Cross Country Championships hosted by Wilmington (OH) College. Lutz finished third for the Blugolds and 112th overall with a time of 25:03. The Blugolds were the top WIAC finisher at the Championships defeating conference champion UW-La Crosse by 59 points.

November 6, 2006-November 12, 2006

"Molly Warner, Junior, Mosinee, WI"
Warner was the top Eau Claire finisher and helped lead the Blugolds to an at-large birth to the NCAA Cross Country Championships November 18 in Mason, Ohio. Warner finished 10th overall with a time of 21:55.7 as the Blugolds finished fourth overall at the NCAA Midwest Regional with 129 points. The Blugolds will return to the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year.

October 23, 2006-October 29, 2006

"Beth Lutz, Sophomore, Eau Claire, WI/Memorial"
Lutz continues to improve as well as the Blugolds who finished second at the WIAC Championships hosted by UW-La Crosse. Lutz finished third on the team and eighth overall with a time of 22:41. It was Lutz's best finish in a meet and with the team this season as she cracked into the top three Blugold placewinners. Lutz and the Blugolds notched their best finish at the WIAC Championships since the 1997 Championships and improved from being 72 points out of first place last season to just five points away from a first place finish this season.

October 9, 2006-October 15, 2006

"Beth Lutz, Sophomore, Eau Claire, WI/Memorial"
Lutz ran a lifetime best time as the Blugolds finished 5th out of 28 teams at the Tori Neubauer Invite hosted by UW-La Crosse. In a field featuring several NCAA Division I and II schools, Lutz finished fourth among Blugold runners and 62 overall in a time of 23:27.

September 25, 2006-October 1, 2006

"Cassie Haak, Sr., Shoreview, MN/Mounds View"
Haak posted a top 15 performance at the 16-team Blugold Open hosted by UW-Eau Claire. Haak finished third on the team and 15th overall with a time of 23:51. Her time was 1:26 out of first place. The Blugolds finished third overall behind nationally-ranked UW-La Crosse and St. Thomas (MN).

September 18, 2006-September 24, 2006

"Christina Locke, Sr., Racine, WI/Horlick"
Locke posted a top-20 finish as the Blugolds finished seventh out of 32 teams at the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota. In a field featuring some of the top Division III cross country programs in the nation, Locke placed 17th in a field of over 400 competitors with a time of 24:04. Locke posted the second-best time on the day for the Blugolds.

September 11, 2006-September 17, 2006

"Molly Warner, Junior, Mosinee"
Top Blugold runner and top Division III runner in the Midwest Collegiate which included a significant number of Division II competitors. Warner covered the 5,000-meter course in 18:44 which compared to the winning time of 18:16. Two UW-Parkside runners and one North Dakota State runner finished ahead of Warner in the 212-runner field. The next best time by a Division III runner was 19:04.
