2008-09 Basketball Athletes of the Week

February 16, 2009-February 22, 2009

Heidi Arciszewski, Guard, 5-9, Senior, Thorp, Wis.
The Blugolds ended the regular season this week with two road games, where they came up with two victories. On Wednesday the Blugolds defeated UW-Platteville 60-35 while they took care of Stout with a score of 59-41 Saturday. Arciszewski led Eau Claire both nights, scoring 39 points total. On Wednesday she led the Blugolds with 13 points while she pulled down eight rebounds. She also led the game with three steals and finished with two assists. On Saturday Arciszewski helped the Blugolds wrap up a third place finish in the conference, leading the game with 26 points. She was a perfect 10-for-10 from the charity stripe and went 8-for-16 from the floor. She also came up with six rebounds, four assists and a game-high three steals.

February 9, 2009-February 15, 2009

Jodi Lindner, Forward, 6-0, Junior, Neillsville, Wis.
Playing only one game this week, the Blugolds fell short for the first time this season in Zorn Arena to UW-Stevens Point 64-57 on Wednesday. Lindner played 32 minutes of the game and finished with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds. She finished shooting 4-for-7 from the floor and 2-for-2 from the free throw line and also came away with two assists.

February 2, 2009-February 8, 2009

Hannah Mesick, Center, 6-2, Sophomore, Chatfield, Minn.
The Blugolds finished a three-game road trip 2-1 with a 61-55 victory over UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday, a 62-50 win over the University of South Dakota on Sunday, but fell 69-63 at UW-River Falls Saturday. On Sunday Mesick led the team with 14 points while she also came up with four rebounds. Against Oshkosh she was the team's second-leading scorer with 16 points. She was also one of three Blugolds to pull down six rebounds. Against River Falls she scored nine points and finished with two rebounds. She also came away with four assists and five steals for the week.

January 26, 2009-February 1, 2009

Heather Witt, Point Guard, 5-7, Senior, Kendall, Wis./Royall
The eighth-ranked Blugolds finished the week with two big wins at home, defeating UW-Superior 70-43 on Wednesday and taking down second-ranked UW-Whitewater 71-50 on Saturday. In the Blugolds' 21-point victory over the Warhawks Witt led all scorers with a career-high 28 points while also leading the game with four steals. She finished the game shooting 11-for-21 from the floor and hit all her free throws (4-for-4). In Wednesday's contest Witt scored eight points while once again leading the game with five steals. Witt also tied for a game-high seven assists on Wednesday. For the week she finished with 10 assists and seven rebounds.

January 19, 2009-January 25, 2009

Hannah Mesick, Center, 6-2, Sophomore, Chatfield, Minn.
Mesick led the Blugolds in scoring in two games this week as Eau Claire split decisions, falling on Wednesday at UW-Stevens Point 66-60 and winning 64-47 at UW-La Crosse on Saturday. On Wednesday Mesick recorded a game-high 21 points and seven rebounds. She also came away with one assist and was 8-for-11 from the field and 5-for-5 from the free throw line. On Saturday she finished with 14 points and eight rebounds while also coming up with one assist and two blocks. For the week Mesick shot 53.8 percent from the floor (14-for-26) and 7-for-7 from the line.

January 12, 2009-January 18, 2009

Hannah Mesick, Center, 6-2, Sophomore, Chatfield, Minn.
Eau Claire got back on track this week with two conference wins, defeating Oshkosh 59-44 on Wednesday and River Falls 55-51 on Saturday, both at Zorn Arena. Mesick led the games in scoring both nights with 18 points Wednesday and 16 on Saturday. Against Oshkosh, Mesick was 6-for-8 from the free throw line and 6-for-7 from the field, while she also came up with five rebounds and two assists. In Saturday's contest, Mesick pulled down four boards and blocked one shot.

January 5, 2009-January 11, 2009

Heidi Arciszewski, Guard, 5-9, Senior, Thorp, Wis.
In two games this week the Blugolds split, scoring a 48-43 victory over UW-Superior on Wednesday and a 73-61 loss to UW-Whitewater on Saturday. Arciszewski led the Blugolds in rebounds on Wednesday and contributed 10 points and two assists. On Saturday Arciszewski led the team with 18 points and seven rebounds. She also came away with three assists and two steals.

December 22, 2008-January 4, 2009

Heidi Arciszewski, Guard, 5-9, Senior, Thorp, Wis.
In two games in the last couple weeks, the Blugolds picked up victories in both and remained undefeated on the season at 11-0. The sixth-ranked Blugolds defeated Case Western Reserve 82-40 to open the Otterbein College Tournament on December 27 and recorded a 74-60 win over Otterbein the next day to take home the tournament title. On her way to being named Tournament MVP, Arciszewski scored a double-double in the championship contest with 15 points and 10 rebounds, and came up with 11 points and eight boards the night before. In the two-game span, she also finished with three steals and seven assists.

December 8, 2008-December 14, 2008

Heather Witt, Point Guard, 5-7, Senior, Kendall, Wis./Royall
Witt helped the Blugolds stay undefeated (9-0) on the season with two victories this week. Wednesday the Blugolds defeated the Platteville Pioneers 59-47 and Witt contributed nine points and five rebounds. She also came up with a game-high five steals and added one assist. In Saturday's 66-52 victory over UW-La Crosse, Witt scored 23 points to lead Eau Claire and led the game with six assists. She also came away with a game-high three steals and pulled down four rebounds.

December 1, 2008-December 7, 2008

Heidi Arciszewski, Guard, 5-9, Senior, Thorp, Wis.
The Blugolds picked up two more wins this week to remain undefeated this season at 7-0. Wednesday the Blugolds faced NCAA Division II University of Minnesota-Duluth and came away with a 67-52 victory. Saturday the Blugolds opened conference play, defeating UW-Stout 73-68 in Zorn Arena. In Wednesday's game, Arciszewski recorded 15 points and led the team with eight rebounds. In Saturday's game, Arciszewski scored a career-high 31 points to lead all scorers. Her previous career-high was 30 points, which she scored against Stout last season. Arciszewski also went 16-for-16 from the free throw line, tying a school record for best free throw percentage and most free throws made in a game. Arciszewski also led the Blugolds with seven rebounds. For the season, Arciszewski has only missed one free throw (40-for-41) and leads the team with 18.9 points and six rebounds per game.

November 24, 2008-November 30, 2008

Hannah Mesick, Center, 6-2, Sophomore, Chatfield, Minn.
The Blugolds remained undefeated on the season (5-0) with three home wins this week. On Tuesday the 18th ranked Blugolds played the 16th ranked St. Norbert College Green Knights in their home opener and came away with a 66-57 victory. Eau Claire then picked up two more wins in its Thanksgiving Showcase, defeating St. Olaf College (Minn.) on Friday 80-45 and followed that with a 60-54 win over UW-Stevens Point in the championship game Saturday. In Saturday's contest Mesick helped the Blugolds pull away from Stevens Point in the second half, shooting 6-for-6 from the field and scoring 13 points. For the game she scored 19 points and pulled down five rebounds. On Friday she scored 10 points and came up with a rebound and a block. For her efforts on the weekend, she was named Tournament MVP. On Tuesday against St. Norbert, Mesick scored 13 points and grabbed three rebounds. Mesick is now second on the team this season with 15.2 points per game.

November 17, 2008-November 23, 2008

Heidi Arciszewski, 5-9, Guard, Senior, Thorp, Wis.
Arciszewski led the Blugolds in points in two games as the Blugolds opened their season winning both at the Ripon College Tournament this weekend. On Friday the Blugolds defeated host Ripon College 64-43 with Arciszewski recording her first double-double of the season, scoring 16 points and pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds. On Saturday in the Blugolds' 69-47 win over Concordia University (Wis.), Arciszewski had a game-high 26 points and also added five rebounds. For her efforts she was named to the All-Tournament Team.
