2003 Softball Athletes of the Week

Position: Beth Steward, catcher, Jr., Chippewa Falls (Chi-Hi)
Steward had a big week from the plate for the Blugolds, going 10-for-17 (.588) with three home runs, four doubles, seven runs batted in, five runs and one walk. In game one of a doubleheader against UW-Stout Steward went 3-for-3 with a home run, two doubles, three runs batted in and one run. Steward drove in three of the Blugolds' four runs in that game. In a 12-0 victory over UW-Stevens Point in the WIAC Cluster Tournament Sunday, Steward again went 3-for-3 with two solo home runs while scoring three runs in five innings.

Pitcher: Kim Czapla, Sr., Arlington Heights, IL (Buffalo Grove)
Czapla put together two phenomenal performances against UW-La Crosse and Augustana last week which included an 11 inning consecutive shutout streak between the two games. Czapla won both games she pitched, giving up just one earned run while fanning 13 batters while giving up just nine hits and three walks. Czapla helped the Blugolds to a 4-0 record on the week.
Position: Position player: Jannah Grinnell, 1B, Sr., Delano, MN
Grinnell played excellent in four games this weekend at the plate and in the field. She batted an impressive .462 against conference opponent UW-La Crosse and non conference opponents Marian, Concordia, and Augustana. Grinnell pounded out four extra base hits on the week, including three home runs. She knocked in an incredible nine RBI while scoring five runs. In the field, Grinnell converted on 25 of 26 opportunities for a fielding percentage of .962 in leading the Blugolds to a perfect 4-0 record on the week.
