2004-05 Tennis Athletes of the Week

April 4, 2005-April 10, 2005

Tim Eisele, Fr., Lakeville, MN (Apple Valley)
Eisele finished the week a perfect 3-0 as he did not drop a single game in leading the Blugolds to a 2-1 record in the week, including wins over La Crosse and Oshkosh. In Friday's loss to Whitewater, Eisele topped the Warhawks' Greg Iserman 7-6 (7-3), 6-1 at No. 3 singles and was one of two Blugolds to record a victory. Eisele won even more convincingly in both matches on Saturday, defeating La Crosse's Jeff Strand 6-2, 6-3 in No. 2 singles and topping Oshkosh's Joel Vedder 6-3, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

March 21, 2005-March 28, 2005

Chris Slagle, Sr., St. Paul, MN (Cretin-Derham Hall)
Slagle finished last week 1-1 in singles competition, earning a three-set win over Texas Lutheran's Michael Campbell in a 5-2 Blugold victory. Slagle lost the first set 7-5 at three singles but came back to win the second and third sets 7-5, 7-5. Coach Tom Gillman credited Slagle for showing excellent leadership on the Blugolds spring break trip to Texas.

March 7, 2005-March 13, 2005

Erik Brandner, Fr., Eau Claire (Memorial)
Brandner had a busy weekend at the 7th annual Eau Claire Adult Open as he competed in men's open singles, doubles and the NTRP Combined Mixed doubles. He posted a 2-1 record in open singles, earning a 7-6(1), 6-7(4), 10-8 in the round of 32 and a 6-3, 6-4 win in the round of 16 before being ousted in the quarterfinals. Brandner and his teammate made short work of their first match in open doubles competition, winning 6-0, 6-0 before losing in three sets in their quarterfinal match. In mixed doubles, Brandner and his teammate won their opening match in straight sets before falling in the finals in three sets.

February 28, 2005-March 6, 2005

Chris Baga, So., Duluth, MN (Marshall)
Baga won the only match he had last week, topping St. Mary's Ryan Kennedy 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 6 single spot. The Blugolds topped St. Mary's by a score of 5-4 for their fifth consecutive dual meet victory.

February 21, 2005-February 27, 2005

Jeff Peterson, So., Edina, MN
Peterson was a perfect 4-0 on the weekend, including winning two doubles matches with a new partner. Peterson paired up with CJ Rose for the first time ever at No. 3 doubles and earned an 8-2 victory over Bethel and an 8-3 victory over St. Scholastica. Peterson is still a perfect 8-0 in No. 3 doubles this season. The sophomore Blugold was also 2-0 in singles play last week, losing just two games on the week. He defeated Peter Spargy of St. Scholastica 6-1, 6-0 and Andrew Erikson of Bethel by the same score, leading the Blugolds to a 2-0 record on the week.

February 14, 2005-February 20, 2005

Jake Znidarsich, Fr., La Crosse (Central)
Znidarsich had a fantastic week as he led the Blugolds to a 2-1 record in dual meets. He paired with Jeff Peterson for Eau Claire's only win against Luther, a 9-8 victory in No. 3 doubles. The next day in a pair of dual meets against Simpson and Hamline, Znidarsich started his first two singles matches of the year and came through with flying colors. He earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 6 doubles against Simpson and then won 6-2, 6-2 in No. 5 singles against Hamline. He also posted two more doubles victories to improve to a perfect 6-0 at No. 3 doubles this season.

February 7, 2005-February 13, 2005

Aaron Nordenskjold, So., Red Wing, MN
Nordenskjold led the Blugolds to two dual meet victories last week as Eau Claire topped St. Olaf 8-1 and St. Norbert 6-1 on back-to-back nights. Against the Oles on Friday, Nordenskjold defeated Drew Erie in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 at the No. 2 singles spot while also earning an 8-2 win in his No. 2 doubles match. The following night, Nordenskjold posted another straight set win at the No. 2 singles spot, earning a 6-3, 7-6 victor over St. Norbert's Andrew Winters. He finished his weekend off with an 8-3 victory in the No. 2 doubles spot to finish a perfect 4-0 on the week.
