2002-03 Tennis Athletes of the Week

April 21, 2003-April 27, 2003

Chris Slagle, So., St. Paul, MN (Cretin-Derham Hall)
Slagle had an excellent performance at this weekends NCTA Championship hosted by UW-La Crosse. Leading the Blugolds to a third place finish, Slagle advanced the championships of the event with a pair of sound victories in the singles tournament. The Blugolds sophomore posted a straight set victory over Jeff Hagman of Oshkosh and a three-set win over Winona State's Dan Clarke before eventually falling in the championships in a hard-fought three set match.

April 14, 2003-April 20, 2003

Doubles: Tyler Litscher (Fr.-Eau Claire/Memorial) and Bob Hartman (Fr.-McFarland)
Playing together for the first time all season, Litscher and Hartman went 2-1 at No. 3 doubles flight at the WIAC duals held in La Crosse. Litscher and Hartman won their first two matches of the weekend by defeating Matt Griffiths and Ross Johnson of Whitewater 8-6 on Friday and Jeff Hagman and Nick Redmann of Oshkosh 8-1. The tandem demonstrated consistent play all weekend according to head coach Tom Gillman.

March 31, 2003-April 7, 2003

Doubles: Matt Widder, Jr., Sheboygan & Adam Arians, Jr., Mankato, MN (Loyal)
Witter and Arians picked up one singles and one doubles win apiece this weekend against Wittenburg and Washington University. After dropping the first set Widder stormed back against Duby Lakos at No. 2 singles to win the match 1-6, 6-1, 6-1 while Arians earned a hard-fought straight set victory over Mike Herzog 6-4, 7-6 (12-10) at No. 4 singles. The most impressive victory came in No. 1 doubles action against Washington University when Witter and Arians posted a career victory, defeating Wash. U's No. 1 doubles tandem 8-6.

March 24, 2003-March 30, 2003

Bob Hartman, Fr., McFarland
Advanced his way to the semifinals of last weekend's YMCA tournament where no team scores were kept. Hartman defeated Tom Litscher of Eau Claire, Dyno Waisanen of Minneapolis and Mark Warling of St. Paul in reaching the semifinals. Hartman then lost to eventual champion Karl Monson of Eau Claire 2-6, 3-6.

March 17, 2003-March 23, 2003

Chris Slagle, So., St. Paul, MN (Cretin-Derham Hall)
Slagle earned three tough victories this week including No. 6 singles victories against Campbellsville and Limestone. He earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory in an Eau Claire loss to Campbellsville on Wednesday and also won in the No. 3 doubles with Ryan Gruhlke 8-3. Later in the same day in a dual meet with Limestone, Slagle earned another impressive victory by winning in straight sets 6-4, 6-3.

February 10, 2003-February 16, 2003

Bob Hartman, Fr., McFarland
Hartman showed a dominating performance this weekend against both UM-Morris and Concordia in leading the Blugolds to back-to-back 7-0 shutouts of the two schools. In the No. 6 singles position, Hartman dominated his match against UM-Morris, winning in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Hartman one in straight sets again on Saturday, this time winning 6-1, 6-1 against Concordia in the No. 6 singles spot.
