2004-05 Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week

January 24, 2005-January 30, 2005

Swimming: Mike Carroll, Sr., Green Lake
Carroll finished the week with five first-place finishes in dual meet wins over both Hamline and UW-Whitewater. Against Hamline, Carroll was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:04.75 and the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:05.24 while also winning the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 17:37.12. In Saturday's win against the Warhawks, Carroll won the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:26.51 while also winning the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:05.84. Carroll was also a member of two, second-place relay teams last week.

Diving: Scott Heatwole, Jr., Port Washington
Heatwole had wins in both diving events against Hamline and took second in both events against Whitewater. He posted a national qualifying score of 283.60 on the 1-meter board for the win on Friday while also winning the 3-meter event with a score of 253.70.

January 17, 2005-January 23, 2005

Swimming: Nick Peterson, So., Lake Elmo, MN (North St. Paul)
Peterson finished out a dual meet victory over River Falls with two first-place finishes and a second-place finish. He won the 200-meter freestyle event with a time of 1:53.32 and was also a member of the winning 800-meter freestyle relay team. Peterson finished second place in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:18.86

Diving: Scott Heatwole, Jr., Port Washington
Heatwole posted a national qualifying score in the 1-meter diving event in a dual meet victory over River Falls on Friday. He took first place in the event with a score of 265.60 and followed it up with a third place finish on the 3-meter board the next day at the Stevens Point Invite.

December 6, 2004-December 11, 2004

Swimming: Brian Jordan, Fr., Madison (West)
Jordan was a part of two first-place finishes in a dual meet at UW-La Crosse. Jordan took over six seconds off his season best time to win the 500 freestyle in 5:10.94. He was also a member of the first place 800 freestyle relay and took fourth place in the 1000 freestyle in 11:02.82.

Diving: Scott Heatwole, Jr., Port Washington
Heatwole won the one-meter dive while finishing second in the three-meter dive in a dual meet at UW-La Crosse. Both scores were season highs for Heatwole in each event. Heatwole won the one-meter with a score of 247.00 while posting a 254.15 to finish second in the three-meter.

November 29, 2004-December 5, 2004

Swimming: Mike Carroll, Sr., Green Lake
Carroll tallied two first-place and two second-place finishes at the Titan Invitational last weekend in Appleton. He won the 200-yard butterfly event with a time of 2:05.65 and also earned a win in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:07.91. Carroll took second in the 400-yard individual medley with a time of 4:36.89 and claimed second as a member of the 800-yard freestyle relay team.

Diving: Scott Heatwole, Jr., Port Washington & Bryan Dykstra, Fr., Racine (Horlick)
Both Heatwole and Dykstra posted national qualifying scores in the 1-meter diving event at the 2004 Titan Invite. Dykstra won the event with a score of 441.00 with Heatwole claiming second with a score of 438.65. Both divers also performed well on the 3-meter board, with Heatwole earning the victory with a score of 431.55. Dykstra finished second, posting a score of 409.60.

November 8, 2004-November 14, 2004

Swimming: Mike Carroll, Sr., Green Lake
Carroll was part of three first-place finishes in a decisive 163-63 dual-meet victory over MSU-Mankato. Individually, Carroll won both the 1,000-yard and 500-yard freestyle events. His time of 10:31.04 in the 1000 was his best collegiate time while he also won the 500 with a time of 5:05.93. Carroll was also part of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team.

Diving: Scott Heatwole, Jr., Port Washington
Heatwole took a first and second place finish in a victory over MSU-Mankato last weekend. He won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 225.50 while taking second in the 3-meter event with a score of 221.35.

October 25, 2004-October 31, 2004

Swimming: Peter Shafe, So., Burlington
Shafe came away with three, top-three finishes in a dual meet against UW-Stevens Point. Shafe took second place in the in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:06.84 while taking third in the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:09.24. He was also a member of the third place 200-yard freestyle team.

Diving: Bryan Dykstra, Fr., Racine (Horlick)
Dyksta won the 3-meter diving event and also took third place on the 1-meter board. He scored a 203.05 on the 3-meter board while posting a score of 223.35 in a third place finish in the 1-meter diving event.

October 11, 2004-October 17, 2004

Swimming: Steve Fisher, Jr., Shoreview, MN (Mounds View)

Fisher was a part of five, top-three finishes at the Midwest Coed Relays in Eau Claire, including four second place finishes. He took second place in the 4x25 freestyle, 8x50 medley, 4x50 freestyle, and 4x100 relay while taking third in the 1700 freestyle relay.

Diving: Bryan Dykstra, Fr., Racine (Horlick)
Dykstra and teammate Katie Anderson took first place in the 1-meter diving relay at the Midwest Coed Relays in Eau Claire. The team finished with a score of 190.05.
