2003-04 Swimming & Diving Athletes of the Week

February 2, 2004-February 8, 2004

Swimming: Matt Schuebel, Jr., Racine (Horlick)
Schuebel led the Blugolds to a dual-meet victory over UW-Oshkosh as he took home three first-place finishes and a second-place finish. He won individually in the 50-yard freestyle (22.95) and the 100-yard butterfly (55.92) while also being a member of the winning 400-yard freestyle relay team (3:22.46). Schuebel was also a member of the second-place 200-yard medley relay team (1:42.21).

Diving: Adam VonFeldt, So., Lancaster
Von Feldt helped lead the Blugolds to a dual-meet victory over UW-Oshkosh as he took second on both diving events. He took second on the 3-meter board with a score of 222.15 while earning another second place finish on the 1-meter board with a mark of 213.90.

January 26, 2004-February 1, 2004

Swimming: Steve Fisher, Jr., Shoreview, MN (Mounds View)
Fisher had a phenomenal day as the Blugolds topped Whitewater and River Falls in a home meet. Fisher earned four first place finishes at the event including the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 22.96 seconds and the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 50.20. Fisher was also a member of the first place 200-yard medley relay which won in a time of 1:42.04 and the winning 200-yard freestyle relay team which took first in a time of 1:30.51.

Diving: Adam VonFeldt, So., Lancaster
Von Feldt helped lead the Blugolds to a home triangular victory over conference opponents Whitewater and River Falls as he won both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. He claimed first place in the 1-meter with a score of 209.05 while taking first in the 3-meter with a score of 208.85.

January 19, 2004-January 25, 2004

Swimming: John Welch, Sr., Marshfield
Welch played a big role in the Blugolds dual meet victory over Macalester, earning three first-place finishes. He won the 1,000 yard freestyle in a time of 10:38.21 while also taking first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:10.8. Welch earned his third first-place finish as a member of the winning 4x100 freestyle relay which won with a time of 3:23.43. All three of the times were season bests for Welch.

Diving: Adam VonFeldt, So., Lancaster
Von Feldt helped the Blugolds to a 148-50 victory over Macalester as he took first place in both diving events. The sophomore Blugold took first on the 1-meter event with a score of 184.90 while winning the 3-meter event with a score of 193.50.

January 12, 2004-January 18, 2004

Swimming: Chris Moser, Fr., Glendale
Moser performed phenomenally in a dual meet against Hamline University, bringing home a first place and a second place finish while posting two personal best times. Moser finished second individually in the 1650 yard freestyle with a time of 21:18.79, shaving 27 second off of his previous personal best. The freshman swimmer was also a member of the first place 400 yard freestyle relay team that won the event in a time of 3:35.66. Moser also took part in exhibition swimming in the 500 yard freestyle and posted a personal best.

Diving: Adam VonFeldt, So., Lancaster
Von Feldt helped the Blugolds to an 83-38 dual meet victory over Hamline as he won both diving events. He won with a score of 225.60 in the 1-meter event and 213.50 in the 3-meter event.

December 1, 2003-December 7, 2003

Swimming: John Welch, Sr., Marshfield
Welch had a good weekend at the Titan Invitational in leading the Blugolds to a third place finish. He took second in both the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:26.05 while claiming third in both the 400-yard individual medley and the 500-yard freestyle. He finished the 400-yard individual medley in a time of 4:45.32 while finishing the 500-yard freestyle in 5:20.61.

Diving: Adam VonFeldt, So., Lancaster
Von Feldt claimed second on both board events this weekend at the Titan Invitational as the Blugolds claimed third at the event. In the 1-meter diving event he took second with a score of 384.30 while taking second on the 3-meter with a score of 350.90.

October 27, 2003-November 2, 2003

Swimming: Peter Shafe, Fr., Burlington, WI
The Blugold freshman performed well against heavy competition this weekend at both the St. Cloud Invitational and during a dual meet with UW-Stevens Point. In St. Cloud, Shafe took third in the 100m backstroke with a time of 59.17 and also took third in the 200m backstroke with a time of 2:09.81. He was also a member of the second place 200m freestyle relay team, which finished in a time of 1:30.91. Against the Pointers, Shafe claimed second in the 100m backstroke with a time of 58.32 while taking fifth in the 200m freestyle with a time of 1:55.76. His 200m freestyle team again took second place, this time finishing in 1:30.09.

Diving: Adam VonFeldt, So., Lancaster
Von Feldt claimed three second place finishes and a third place finish in four events this weekend in a dual meet with Stevens Point and while participating in the St. Cloud Invitational. Against the Pointers, Von Feldt took second in both diving events, scoring a 189.40 on the 3m board and a 194.00 on the 1m board. In St. Cloud Von Feldt took second in the 3m event with a score of 262.90 on 11 dives while taking third in the 1m event, scoring a 266.80 on 11 dives.

October 13, 2003-October 19, 2003

Swimming: Steve Fisher, Jr., Waunakee
Fisher helped lead the Blugolds to a second place finish at the Midwest Coed Relays as he anchored both of the Blugolds first place relay teams. Fisher's first place events were in the 4x25 Free Relay (43.70) and the 4x50 Free Relay (1:36.40). He was also a member of the Blugolds second place 4x100 Free Relay with a split time of 49.83.

Diving: Adam VonFeldt, So., Lancaster
Von Feldt was part of both of the Blugolds third place diving relay teams that helped the Blugolds to a second place finish at this weekend's Midwest Coed Relays held in Eau Claire. The Blugolds took third in the 1-m and 3-m diving events.

October 6, 2003-October 12, 2003

Swimming: Pete Shafe, Fr., Burlington
Shafe stormed onto the scene in his Blugold debut as he took second individually at the Maverick Pentathlon hosted by Minnesota State-Mankato. The Eau Claire 'rookie' totaled a time of 2:45.89 to claim second place. Shafe totaled four second place finished and on fifth place finish in the five events at the meet. His time of 31.01 in the 50-yard breaststroke earned him second place in the event while his time of 58.03 in the 100-yard individual medley was also good for second place. Shafe also earned se
