2011-12 Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week

February 13, 2012-February 19, 2012

Track: Thurgood Dennis, Freshman, Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame
At the Eastbay/Pointer Invite on Saturday, Dennis helped the Blugolds to a fourth place finish. He was part of the winning 4x400-meter relay team while taking third in the 60-meter dash. The 4x400-meter relay team won with a time of 3:19.17, just one second short of a school record. The time was also the fifth fastest in the nation so far this year. He also finished with a time of 6.94 seconds in the 60-meter dash.

Field: Tony Sigrist, Senior, Byron, Minn.
Sigrist tied a school record as he took second place with a toss of 19.83 meters (65-0.75) in the 35-pound weight throw as the Blugolds finished fourth at the Eastbay/Pointer Invite on Saturday. His distance, which is the second best in the nation this year, was the same distance Sam Johnson threw the 35-pound weight to win the 2009 national title.

February 6, 2012-February 12, 2012

Track: Thurgood Dennis, Freshman, Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame
At UW-River Falls' Brooks Classic on Saturday, Dennis won two individual events while he was a part of a winning relay team. He finished the 55-meter dash in first place with a time of 6.52 seconds and won the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.28 seconds, less than two-tenths of a second behind a school record. Dennis was also part of the winning 4x200-meter relay team that finished with a time of 1:31.18.

Field: Tony Sigrist, Senior, Byron, Minn.
At UW-River Falls' Brooks Classic on Saturday, Sigrist won the weight throw with a distance of 64-10.75, almost four feet better than the rest of the field and just two inches short of a school record. The distance was also the second best in NCAA Division III so far this year. He also placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 50-6.75.

January 30, 2012-February 5, 2012

Track: Cody Prince, Freshman, Appleton, Wis./North
Prince was part of two event victories as the Blugolds won the Pointer Invitational at UW-Stevens Point on Saturday. He won the 400-meter dash with a time of 50 seconds as the Blugolds swept the top four spots. Prince was also part of the winning 4x400-meter relay team that won by nearly five seconds with a time of 3:19.92.

Field: Bart Mestelle, Senior, Sun Prairie, Wis.
As the Blugolds won the UW-Stevens Point Pointer Invitational, Mestelle took second in the heptathlon. He scored 4,758 points as he won three heptathlon events while taking second in three others and fifth in another.

January 23, 2012-January 29, 2012

Track: Thurgood Dennis, Freshman, Allouez, Wis./Green Bay Notre Dame
Dennis won the 60-meter dash this weekend at UW-Stout's Warren Bowlus Open. His time of 6.93 seconds is the fifth fastest time in Division III this season.

Field: Joe Lilek, Senior, Tomahawk, Wis.
Lilek won the shot put this weekend at UW-Stout's Warren Bowlus Open. He finished with a mark of 53-0.75, tied for the eighth best toss in the nation this season.

January 16, 2012-January 22, 2012

Track: Cody Prince, Freshman, Appleton, Wis./North
Prince had two top-three finishes as the Blugolds took second place at the UW-Stevens Point Triangular on Saturday. He won the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.75 seconds, the fifth fastest time in the nation this year, and was third in the 200-meter dash with a time of 23.10 seconds.

Field: Tony Sigrist, Senior, Byron, Minn.
Saturday at the UW-Stevens Point Triangular, where the Blugolds finished in second place, Sigrist won the 35-pound weight throw while taking fifth in the shot put. His toss of 64-7.25 in the weight throw was more than five feet further than the rest of the field and the toss leads the nation so far this season.
